I’m ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation. I will not be silenced.

Our communities deserve to live with dignity, not fear. After Trump’s agents killed our neighbors & terrorized our communities, we’re pushing to allow the American public to sue ICE agents I’ll reintroduce the North STAR Act next session. Let’s win a DFL trifecta & get it done.
Text reading “CBS NEWS
Minnesota state Sen. Fateh joins national lawmakers in push to let Americans sue ICE agents”, a picture of ICE agents, more text reading “By Stephen Swanson | July 29, 2026
Lawmakers from across the U.S., including Democratic Minnesota state Sen. Omar Fateh, gathered in Chicago Wednesday morning to push for the public's ability to sue federal immigration officers.
The event centered on the unveiling of "a new, nationwide initiative to introduce or reintroduce legislation allowing Americans to sue ICE agents for constitutional violations," according to the State Innovation Exchange, which hosted the news conference.
Fateh was joined by three other state senators:
Colorado's Mike Weissman, Illinois' Graciela Guzman, and Utah's Luz Escamilla.”"The killings of Renée Good and Alex Pretti in Minnesota, Lorenzo Salgado Arauj in Texas, and Joan Sebastian Durán Guerrero in Maine at the hands of ICE agents show the urgent need for accountability against an armed and well-funded force that has been terrorizing communities in total impunity," said a State Innovation Exchange spokesperson in a press release.
"To date, no federal immigration agent has ever been convicted of criminal wrongdoing nor held personally liable while on duty."
Fateh, who represents the south Minneapolis district where Good and Pretti were killed in January, co-authored a bill this past legislative session that sought to allow Minnesotans to sue for compensation for civil rights violations at the hands of federal agents.
The bill failed. Legislatures in Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland and Vermont have successfully passed similar laws.Text reading “"On May 11th, that package passed the Senate, 34 to 33, meaning not one single Republican voted for it," Fateh said. "And in our tied House, the Republican leadership spent the session pretending the bill did not exist, that [Operation Metro Surge] had not happened, and saying that even if it did happen, Minnesotans had it coming."
Fateh said in Wednesday's conference the bill would've also banned federal immigration officers from wearing masks, barred them from detaining people in places like courthouses, daycares, hospitals and schools.
"Next year, when we come back into session with the new legislature, we will renew the fight to defend rights, restore local control and hold agents and their bosses accountable for what happened in the state of Minnesota, so that that can never be allowed to happen anywhere ever again,"
Fateh said.”The Hennepin County Attorney's Office has filed criminal complaints against federal immigration officers accused of committing crimes during the ICE surge earlier this year.
In late May, the office charged ICE agent Christian Castro with multiple counts of second-degree assault and a count of falsely reporting a crime following the shooting of Venezuelan national Julio Sosa-Celis on Jan. 14 in north Minneapolis.
In April, the office also charged ICE agent Gregory Morgan Jr. with assault in connection to an incident in early February where he allegedly pointed a gun at two people on a Twin Cities highway.
No charges have been filed yet against ICE agent Jonathan Ross in Good's Jan. 7 shooting death, and against the still-unidentified Border Patrol agents who killed Pretti on Jan. 24.
Earlier this month, federal investigators began sharing evidence in these cases with Hennepin County and state prosecutors after a months-long lack of cooperation.

After a trough of relatively less activity, that is fewer people calling me for help, I'm back up to 10 active habeas cases. I do not want to cause anyone undue alarm, but ICE has changed tactics and seems more likely to detain people when they go in for routine appointments with ICE.

Man, the effects of the ICE occupation are vast and ongoing. A family I am helping, like so many others, is trying to figure out how to rebuild their lives. Trying to make rent, needing to find work, adjusting to an existence without family members. There may be less ICE but these are huge wounds.

washington county republicans’ facebook post about anders folk speaking to them on 2/7. he is seeking DFL endorsement in running for hennepin county attorney
Washington County Repu...
Anders Folk reviewed an extensive resume that qualifies him to be the Hennepin County Attorney.
That role is the chief prosecutor for the County, provides legal counsel to Hennepin County Commissioners and government components, and sets the agenda for public safety. The office employs 500 and has a budget of $90M. Folk has a law degree from the U of MN and served in the Marine Corps as a Judge Advocate. With his experience as an Assistant US Attorney, he prosecuted cases in the Counter Terrorism unit.
His plan for the office, if elected, is: 1) Strategic enforcement to take the most dangerous criminals off the streets 2) Prevention and Intervention - finding those most at risk of committing crimes and offering help with school, jobs, etc. and 3) Collaborative leadership in law enforcement and public safety. He answered many questions covering the severe staff shortage in the US Attorney's Office that is hampering investigations; the police shortage in Minneapolis with only 600 officers that could not provide enough support for 3,000 Federal ICE agents; and the value of getting gangs and organized crime out of neighborhoods. He will be seeking DFL endorsement.

The fear and violence that President Trump has unleashed on our home is destroying any sense of public safety. The Administration needs to put an immediate end to “Operation Metro Surge”.
I believe in protecting public safety and upholding the rule of law. "Operation Metro Surge" is actively undermining both.

There has been none of the necessary cooperation and trust between federal officials and local government, and zero transparency from the Trump
Administration into ICE's operations in the Twin Cities.
Minnesotans are seeing their friends and neighbors, including U.S. citizens with no criminal records, abducted by masked agents, shoved to the ground, and sprayed with mace.

The fear and violence that President Trump has unleashed on our home is destroying any sense of public safety.

The Administration needs to put an immediate end to “Operation Metro Surge”.
