Angie Craig won ONE precinct in Minneapolis Ward 13. (Precinct 13-10, Fulton neighborhood, by Lake Harriet, the fancier houses), even though she was endorsed by Frey and Palmisano. And even then Angie only won by two votes, 566 to 564!! Peggy comfortably won every other precinct. 1/

In the actual city of Saint Paul, Peggy Flanagan beat Mayor Her’s preferred candidate by *40* points.
A chart of each district that is in the city of Saint Paul (Senate Districts 64-67). Flanagan won 41,416 to Craig’s 18,126 votes. That’s 70% to 30%. I did ignore the other candidates because they got like 1%. It’s possible that if you add all those in Peggy only won by, like, 38-39%. And yes, I rounded to no decimal points so that I’d avoid a bunch of “nice” jokes about Flanagan’s 69.6%.

I do wonder how it’s possible to govern a city when you’re this out of touch with the people you represent. In my own precinct (which is well-off and prime Her territory), Flanagan won by 50 pts. Her’s endorsement moved no one, and came across, like Craig’s campaign itself, as tremendously craven.

The "centrist" think tank Third Way is looking to pay someone between $140,000 and $150,000 to spend their days trying to dig up dirt on DSA members. They're trying to sell this gig as "anti-extremism" work, which I find completely disgusting.
from job listing:

As the Director of Anti-Extremism, a typical day might include…

Assembling and updating a database of the DSA’s most extreme ideas and statements and a repository of voting records, affiliations, and issue positions to make available to allies and partners;
Leading public opinion research to identify and test the contrasts that move base voters away from these extreme candidates;
Overseeing the development of memos, talking points, rapid response materials, and other products that make the case against these extreme forces in American politics;
Promoting and marketing our research and materials to ensure they reach decisionmakers quickly, repeatedly, and at scale through a coordinated distribution infrastructure;
Recruiting and arming a group of young, diverse spokespeople to fight the DSA from a center-left perspective and assembling a broad coalition of organizational partners to make the case against extremism;
Running an earned media program to create a drumbeat of our message in op-eds, television appearances, podcasts, and traditional and digital media engagement.

Thomas Paine is my favorite founding father. He was famously abolitionist and one of the earliest voices to point out the hypocrisy of fighting for independence while keeping slaves. He also firmly believed that keeping any friendship which required compromising your morals made you a bad person.

best paragraph I've read today "in 1490, Pope Innocent VIII issued the Butterbrief (Butter Letter), allowing the use of butter in Stollen, but only for the prince’s household. Common bakers had to pay a fee to use butter — funds which conveniently went towards building the Freiberg cathedral."

You don't have to answer the door for the Feds. Do not voluntarily talk to the Feds. If they have a warrant signed by an actual judge, then they can do precisely what the warrant says. But DO NOT TALK TO THE FEDS. Do not answer the door. If you're arrested, your only words are "I want a lawyer."

The Capitol electrolier used to only be turned on for the first day of the legislative session and on Statehood Day. One thing I remember from negotiations in 2023 was that the Speaker, Melissa Hortman, wanted a provision to light the electrolier every day the legislature was in session.

Specifically, the partnership with the UMN's school of public health was lost. All the 'student workers' (keeping in mind these are students getting masters and doing professional training) were laid off and it's my understanding that Health HR won't re-initiate this critical collaboration.

And these teams were unnecessarily attacked by our governor last year. ~100 people who didn't have union protections were laid off in one day, and ~100 more people with union protections were facing layoffs.

MN's Health and Ag departments are TOP NOTCH, and the state tried to lay them off unnecessarily last year. Our state's infectious disease dept was particularly attacked. This is bc, almost more than any other state agency, Health is funded by federal money instead of state funds.
