One day, six ICE vehicles with at least 2 agents in each vehicle pulled over one of our teachers, a white teacher, for no reason and threatened her. Two-thirds of our students weren't in attendance the next day. We set up online instruction and had huge enrollment.

"This election is about the threat of trans kids" is the worst possible messaging for Dems yet so many candidates are leaning into it. No voter will flip R->D over it. Low-info voters read this as "you're focused on bullshit that doesn't affect me" while the base reads this as "you're an asshole."

The core of the issue is these companies decided to build programs that they knew lacked important safeguards, because those safeguards would have cost money and time. It's exactly the same thing as pollution from the smokestack of a power plant. That can be regulated; so can AI.

This just isn't so, @brianbeutler.bsky.social. Companies absolutely could program AI so as to stop dangerous outcomes. They can program whatever they want. The issue is that they think such guardrails would hurt the functionality of their product, and so they won't put them in the programming.

Feel like there's a comparison here with Prop 187 in California in the 90s, where an anti-immigrant ballot measure moved Latino voters towards the Dems. In both cases government policies drove a political reaction that politicians' words alone did not.
