Great article. I particularly liked(?) this part, about the way manosphere talking points were used to justify the shooting of Renée Good at the very highest levels of the US gov. Reactions that say "duh, the right was always misogynist!" while not untrue, miss the point. This is escalating
To explain Good's death to enlist the MAGA faithful in justifying or even relishing it - the New Right, including the White House and its propagandists, treated her as a synecdoche for everything they believe to be wrong with modern women: that they are dismissive of male authority, liberal and smug, delinquent as mothers, and, as a corollary, mentally unstable.

The message, Anna says, was this: "She deserved it. She deserved it. She deserved it."

For the movement, says Kaschuta, Good's transgression was her failure to know her place. From their perspective, she says, "she was foolishly trying to embody masculinity" by engaging in politics, being assertive.

Pedro Gonzalez, another recent apostate from the New Right, who in 2021 received the prestigious Lincoln Fellowship from the Claremont Institute in the same class as Charlie Kirk, agrees with Anna and Kaschuta that, as he puts it, "misogyny is baked into the movement itself." He went on: "They've adopted a caricature of traditional values where, if women don't stay at home, if women don't stay out of politics, well, they might get shot."

Being able to see their emails makes something very clear: The "anti-woke" movement was not a genteel intellectual inquiry, made by disinterested parties who cared deeply about free speech. It is a social circle of powerful people who feel threatened by #MeToo.
Reading through the emails, it's possible to see that Epstein himself coordinated pushback against #MeToo. Looking back, it seems obvious that sinking #MeToo also led to where we are now: a place where laws simply don't apply if you have enough money and power. The same players are involved.

R. H. Bing (October 20, 1914 – April 28, 1986)[1] was an American mathematician who worked mainly in the areas of geometric topology and continuum theory.Bing's father was named Rupert Henry, but Bing's mother thought that "Rupert Henry" was too British for Texas. Thus she compromised by abbreviating it to R. H.[5] Consequently, R. H. does not stand for a first or middle name.

When Bing was applying for a visa, he was requested not to use initials. He explained that his name was really "R-only H-only Bing", and ended up receiving a visa made out to "Ronly Honly Bing".

An email announcement for the upcoming Santa Fe Institute Complexity Coffee on Nascent Research Ideas event. The email reads:

We're pleased to invite you to the first event in our new Nascent Research Ideas forum, taking place on October 15th, from 2:00 to 3:00 PM London time (Please disregard previous email).

Zoom Link: Complexity Coffee: Nascent Research Ideas

This session is designed for interaction. It will feature three short presentations, each followed immediately by a dedicated Q&A session with the speaker. Our presenters are:

Anelise Assumpção will discuss her doctoral research, and the complexity of dealing with data in text format that requires a high degree of interpretation. How the inherent complexity of textual data arises from its dependence on interpretation, context, and linguistic nuance, which makes its processing particularly challenging in academic research.
Emilio Munoz will present his work on Order-Aware State Representations for Path-Dependent Reinforcement Learning, exploring how we might design compact state representations that preserve chronological order while still being computationally feasible.
Phileas Dazeley-Gaist will discuss their ongoing work with the 2025 CGS Sympoietic Art Organism group. The talk will showcase a citation network grown by a small artist community in intentional collaboration working from a shared commons. Over a series of co-creative cycles, artists iteratively remix and take inspiration from works already in the commons, contributing new pieces while tracking citation relationships.
We believe this new series is an important one for us to host because it provides an interactive platform for the fresh, interdisciplinary work emerging from our community. The goal is to share research in its early stages, host substantive discussion, to provide early-stage feedback, and to spark new collaborations.

We hope to see you there.

Warm regards,
The Complexity Coffee TeamA network representing citations between art pieces produced by a small artist community.
