Little Nemo in Slumberland by Winsor McCay from July 19, 1908.
In this installment, Nemo’s mother sends him to take a walk in the garden. As he goes, he is met by Flip, who joins him on his walk. When they first arrive, the garden has barely begun to grow, but as the strip proceeds, the various vegetation grows quickly, eventually passing them in size. There are giant raspberries & blackberries. It keeps growing and Nemo and Flip start climbing the plants like trees. It ends as usual with Nemo falling out of bed and waking up.

Double Dragon 1. At one point I owned it on Sega Master System, Tiger Electronic Handheld, NES, Gameboy, DOS, Sega Genesis, and iOS. Also Double Dragon Advance is a GBA remake which I own, and there was a flip-phone port of that… so I bought it NINE TIMES?!?!🐲🐲

Doing some joystick maintenance today, and remembered that I’ve still got one of these: An SNK rotary stick. This one came with my Victory Road PCB way back when. I wish there was some easy way to convert it into a USB controller, but I wouldn’t know where to begin.
These rotary sticks were used for arcade games like Ikari Warriors, Heavy Barrel, and Midnight Resistance. This one is from a Victory Road kit. Also neat: It has the date of manufacture on its underside (昭和61年11月12日, or 11/12/86).

Just uploaded 4K gameplay footage for Heavy Barrel, released for the NES by Data East in March 1990. Ported from an arcade game with 8-way rotary joysticks which controlled the direction of your fire when twisted, much like Ikari Warriors. A great simultaneous co-op. youtu.be/5Euqt-5tdcs

I still get unreasonably annoyed that after everything Mario does to save Peach in SMB3… defeating countless enemies, traversing dangerous terrain full of monsters and pitfalls, conquering huge airships, etc, she has the audacity to crack a joke, laugh directly in Mario’s face and dip out. 😅

Today I also learned what Nintendo Power's cover for the Ninja Gaiden issue looked like.
The cover of Nintendo Power issue 5, showing a photo of a goofy looking white guy in a black Ninja ensemble, very intense, very 1980s. The background is art, depicting a simple geometric city, with a jungle behind it, a broad plateau, and a craggy castle rising before both the sun and the moon I think?

Shatterhand is such a well-made, well-executed NES game I was surprised to learn it's a reskin of a licensed tokusatsu game that barely adheres to its source material. Beyond the cheesy concept and 90s-awesome box art, it's a solid action platformer with fun ideas! #gaming #videogames #retrogames

Jump Height: 1186 pixels (5 vertical screens)
Jump Distance: 900 pixels (3.5 horizontal screens)
Jump Duration: 360 frames (6 seconds)
