The videogame sequel to my favorite disaster movie

The one and only time I smoked ketamine was awful. As the high got worse my pothead friend took my guitar and started playing this Bloodhound Gang song. He knew the whole song, all the words, and I wanted to jump off my roof

Happy 40th Anniversary Castlevania, my most beloved videogame series. Here i'm playing the GBA port of the first game to celebrate. 🎂🏰🦇💕

My Castlevania NES cartridge from 1987, and my GBA Famicom Mini box of Akumajou Dracula. Happy 40th anniversary Simon Belmont!

The beginning and the end of Castlevania 1. It’s crazy that it’s been 40 years but this game is incredible. I still consider it the first great 3rd party game on the NES. Play it now!

One of the most fascinating graphical touches in Castlevania 1 is the small laboratory in Dracula’s Dungeon. There’s dug up caskets, dead bodies being prepped to be brought back to life by galvanism, glass vials, and red compartments that look like they contain human organs.

Nothing too extravagant, but I always loved these hanging 8-bit skeletons in Dracula’s dungeon. Happy 40th anniversary Castlevania!

Castlevania 1 contains an early example of “yellow paint.” These stairs are highlighted in a medium brown color against a blue and black background; indicating to players that’s where they should go.

40 years ago Simon Belmont fell down a stone brick chasm and landed like a super Chad; resulting in unintentional hilarity. Happy 40th anniversary Castlevania!

Another graphical touch in Castlevania; you see the clock tower, and Dracula’s lair in the distance. It’s a unique sprite seen only once, but it’s totally eye catching.

KEN-OH @hunewearlxzr.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

40 years ago Simon Belmont saw a giant sleeping bat hanging from the entryways of Castlevania. This single image altered my 6-year-old brain in ways I can’t really explain. But little graphical touches like this would become a Castlevania staple for the series.

I was a little late to the MEGA MAN scene. I had played 2 but got really interested in the series when I saw 3 featured in NP. But this was 1991 and for some reason I could not find 2 or 3 in stores. I eventually found 1 at ToysRUs, bought it, and loved playing it for months💙🩵

One of the weirdest things I ever saw on Nickelodeon was two guys going through a prop warehouse and the guy in charge whips out a gory nude lady mannequin without any arms or legs with the skin on her ribs and face pealed off and he says “WHOA IT’S BARBIE AFTER A CAR ACCIDENT!”
