This Mega Man 1 timeline was one of my favorite spreads from HDGG: Mega Man. It's interesting to see how many ways there are to play Mega Man based on the trends and delivery methods of each decade.

Took the family to the Undertale symphony in Philly tonight. I've never played through this game before but apparently I know every single song! Crowd was going wild during this thing!

Mega Man takes a breather after stopping Dr. Wily. This is the unedited scan of an illustration used in Hand-Drawn Game Guides: Mega Man. I was in a nice groove of posting art almost daily for a few months but have obviously fallen out of it..

A quote we ❤️ from @heyphilsummers.bsky.social in 𝘝𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘰 𝘎𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘔𝘢𝘱𝘴: 𝘕𝘌𝘚 & 𝘍𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘤𝘰𝘮 - 𝘋𝘦𝘭𝘶𝘹𝘦 𝘌𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 for Metroid. Pre-order is open now: retrogamebooks.com/products/vid...
A two-page spread from the forthcoming book Video Game Maps: NES & Famicom - Deluxe Edition featuring a quote by Philip Summers and a photograph of Samus (Metroid) art from Metroid - Hisshoubon Series, 1986. The quote reads: "It's easy to dismiss the map design of the original Metroid today, but it's much smarter than it gets credit for. The opening area, Brinstar, is divided into two halves with a single connecting bridge between the east and west. The majority of the game plays out in Brinstar East, though the game begins and ends in Brinstar West. In fact, the final showdown with Mother Brain takes place two screens above the game's starting area! It's a neat detail that's later revisited in the opening of Super Metroid, making Zebes feel more like an actual underground labyrinth than just a random set of screens haphazardly thrown together."

Look at this beast. I may not have featured cover art (but look how nice that new one is) but I did get to write about Mega Man, Metroid and Ninja Gaiden. All games I've mapped fully! Plus you can get my old cover as a poster and bookmark.

Been playing a little Beach Spikers for GameCube here and there. All of the product placement means this likely won't hit Switch. It'll be stuck on GameCube for eternity. Still my favorite sports game for it!

Hey everyone! I’ve been doing some journaling after my gaming sessions (inspired by exp @mathewkumar.com and @heyphilsummers.bsky.social) and I post them online for free, but I’ve also done monthly printed zines of these, because of course I would. You can get them through my Patreon!

The Legend of Zelda - Dungeon 6 - Dragon In my opinion maybe the hardest dungeon in the game due solely to Wizzrobes. Take a potion into this one with you. "There are secrets where fairies don't live" is the player's only in game hint at the location of the 7th dungeon.

I came across my old burned Dreamcast games. My friends and I all bought Dreamcasts after they were discontinued and we passed so many burned games around. Here's what I was left with. I'm a person that loves to have real copies of games on hand, but I feel oddly nostalgic for these discs.

This take on the original Mega Man stage select screen was a fun spread to put together, though in hindsight I wish I had given each robot master their own dedicated spread/section. There's always Mega Man 2 to fix that.

The Legend of Zelda - Dungeon 5 - Lizard This dungeon introduces passages that take Link to a different part of the map. There is also an optional bomb bag to purchase. Finding the whistle is a requirement to defeat the boss.

Shining Force II (Sega Genesis | 1994) "Shining Force II is incredible, but heavens, do I suck at it. It is an amazing 16-bit strategy game which improves upon the original in nearly every way (unless you prefer the original game’s more streamlined approach)." [1/2]
