Late sharing this, but what’s a month after a few decades of waiting? Thanks to the efforts of @niema.net we’ve finally got a way to decode the Nintendo GameCube .VID codec! More info to come soon, plus an interview with Niema about his work! Thanks so much for all the help!

That’s not just a good title slide for a presentation, this absolute legend just delivered an entire presentation rhymed exactly like a Dr Seuss book. Anyone know any illustrators who can draw in the Seuss style? This deserves to be illustrated and printed. Well done, Ethan!

Thank you Phil, not only for a great talk but for the added reassurance that prioritization of your time and getting things “good enough” is ok! Perfection can be the enemy of progress, and we all have a lot of things to balance! Also that Pokémon card is top notch 🏆

*36th birthday (released in 1990) But yeah, Solstice rules! One of those childhood "enigma games" that I took the time to finally learn and play through more recently (with hand-drawn maps). Cool to see in-development footage! Also, amazing Japanese box art by Naoyuki Katoh:
Mysterious wizard stands powerfully, ominously, in the center of a surreal, brutalist labyrinth.

36th anniversary, not 26th! Clearly we’re still in denial regarding the passage of time, and may remain so for awhile 😅. Also while we’re here, it seems the Player’s Pak was free with shipping from the magazine ad, no game purchase required!

There is my life before Bastion and after Bastion, which made its debut on Xbox Live Arcade 20 July 2011. Without it, Supergiant Games doesn't exist. I recorded the game's 3000ish lines of VO here in Darren Korb's bedroom over the course of about 14 months. Happy 15 to our scrappy little video game.

Here's an example of why this is important. Capturing video through Dolphin or a capture card is possible, but comes with a host of hurdles to navigate like color inaccuracy, frame rate mismatches, and audio desync. Decoding the file directly bypasses all of that, and with improved quality as well!

Thanks to the #VGHF Digital Library and the nudge of an retrospective forum comment, I was able to find print evidence of a scrapped enemy type in #ICO that we once only had animation data for. archive.gamehistory.org/item/3e70860...
A portion of a magazine scan, taken from PSM Issue 49 (September 2001), Page 58.

The image shows an altered layout for the entrance to Sunbeams (Stage 3t), that has a pool of water along the left side. Ico is doing battle with a Shadow nearly three times his size.

The caption reads: "If the princess is kidnapped by the shadow creatures, the game ends. The bad guys even come super-sized. Better get out your hitting stick..."A cropped version of the same image to single out Ico and the enemy, the exposure and contrast have been adjusted to see its silhouette clearly against the dark environment.
