Astronomical clock (detail), Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Strasbourg ⛪️ Photo: Alsace, France, 2016 #AlphabetChallenge #Machinery #WeekMForMachinery #Clockwork #Automata #History #Travel #Strasbourg #France #ECK #EastCoastKin
Landscape oriented, 4:3 image.

The lower section of a large, astronomical clock in the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Strasbourg.

A regular clock face is situated above an arch over a curved recess.

This alcove has two small openings through which a procession of automata passes on a revolving, circular platform. The miniature figures on view are seated in carriages pulled by horses.

The curved back wall of the recess is covered in frescoes, as are panels to the side and above it.

Next to the top half of the clock face, on the right, sits a carved cherub holding an hourglass.

The facade as a whole is covered in a great many Baroque decorative features and many surfaces are also gilded.

A photography of a small Heath butterfly resting on a fluffy Carline Thistle seeded. The butterfly is small seen in side profile showing the underside of its forewing that has an orange glow and one eyespot at the tip. It's hindwing banded with brown, grey and cream. The butterfly is backlit with a bright green yellow background making the wings of the butterfly and seedhead glow.

Today's Bird of the Day theme is "Black and White" I dont think I have any bird photos that I've taken in black and white so I've gone back to an old favourite and removed the colour. #BirdOfTheDay #Black&White #BirdsOfBluesky #Nature #WildlifePhotography #ClassicMono #B&W #ECK #EastCoastKin
Landscape oriented, 3:2 monochrome image.

Close up of the neck and head of a herring gull. It is seen in profile, facing the right hand side of the frame.

The back of its neck and underside of its beak are in shadow but otherwise it is brightly sunlit.

The background is clear sky, rendered somewhat dark here by the lighting of the photo. It contrasts with the gull's white feathers.

Portrait-oriented, 3:4 monochrome image.

A religious festival. A group of people are carrying a platform bearing a statue of a male figure dressed as a monk. This is presumably a saint. They are walking down the middle of a city street from the right to the left hand side of the frame.

There are broad ribbons tied around the top of the statue and these radiate outwards to the platform it stands on.

Bank notes are pinned to the ribbons and one woman in the foreground is in the process of adding another one as they pass by.

In the background, two cars are parked on the street behind the procession. Behind them, a young man and an older man are walking along the sidewalk from right to left. Both are wearing dark trousers and light t-shirts but the youth is ahead of the other pedestrian and they do not appear to be together.

Close up of a section of a Fatsia Japonica leaf. The image shows five bright but light green veins radiating out from a nexus at the top where the stem joins the leaf.

Landscape oriented, 16:9 photo.

View along the top of a concrete sea wall on the right. It extends in a straight line from the foreground towards the right hand side of the frame before turning at a slight angle back inwards. It turns once more in the distance, again at an angle and again following a straight line rather than curving. There is a footpath on the right that follows the course of the wall.

There are large, grey rocks resting up against the left hand side of the wall, placed there to reinforce the sea defences.

Below these to the left is a beach at low tide. This is a mixture of sand and rocks in the foreground but further out towards the sea the sand gives way to exposed rock and seaweed that are usually underwater.

Blue sky with a few light, white clouds. The scene is brightly lit by the sun.

A Female Sparrowhawk sitting in a field of long grass. The bird is left of centre of the shot, facinf the camera and sitting in long grass so its bottom half is not visible.
The bird has a hooked beak with yellow at the base and bright yellow eyes. Its has a brown head with a prominent white eye stripe above the eye. Its back is brown and its breast and underbelly are whitish with strong grey-brown barring throughout.
Its is looking towards the right of the shot so that the right side of its head is shown.
In the foreground an out focus tuft of grass runs along the bottom of the frame, obscuring the bottom of the bird. Some kind of thistle can be seen to the left of the bird with pinkish flowers visible.
The background is long green grass, thistles and other vegetation

An Irish #painting. "Sligo Sunset" came out of a time I was in the northwest feeling alone and happy as I looked across Sligo Bay from Strandhill at Blackrock lighthouse and beyond to the glory of Donegal. The sun was going down but it came up again the next day. #SpéirGhorm #ArtYear
Wide panoramic format in acrylics. View across lilac water past a narrow strip of black rocks reaching out from the right. A white and black lighthouse stands centre-right close to far edge of the water where behind it there is a low strip of land running horizontally across the whole painting, slightly higher on right tapering down to slightly lower at the left edge, made of a patchwork of olive green fields, and topped with a line of dark trees that are silhouetted against in the distance a large long blue shape of a mountain ridge that tapers down at either end. Behind it the sky is pale yellow and above the mountain the sky is in rising bands of orange, pink and lilac. Signed bottom right in dark blue, Liam Daly
