Today’s Bird of the Day theme is "Waders" I'm going with this Oystercatcher in Sligo in March 2023. #BirdOfTheDay #Waders #BirdsOfBluesky #Nature #Wildlife #WildlifePhotography #ECK #EastCoastKin #Sligo #Ireland
Landscape oriented, 3:2 image.

A black and white bird, with a long orange beak and red eyes. It is seen in profile as it walks along a shoreline from left to right.

There are clumps of beached seaweed in the foreground and small waves breaking on the shore in the background.

The last of the fingerpost photos from my trip to Edale last month... 🥾 #FingerpostFriday #ColorADay #BWFri #ClassicMono #B&W #Monochrome #Hiking #PeakDistrict #ECK #EastCoastKin
Portrait-oriented, 3:4 image.

A wooden fingerpost with three arrows. One says 'Edale YHA,' one says 'Clough Farm,' and the other says 'Jaggers Clough.'

The fingerpost stands on a hillside. There is grass around the post and in the foreground but the upper slopes of the hill are covered in bracken.

Hazy sky above.

"Surprise! You're in the Abstractia Art Challenge!" 😮 Photo: Watch House, Rosses Point, 2023 #Abstractia #ArtChallenge #Eyes #Pareidolia #FacesInThings #AbandonedBuildings #Sligo #WildAtlanticWay #Ireland #ECK #EastCoastKin
Portrait-oriented, 3:4 image.

The interior of a ruined, stone building. There is no roof. Two walls on either side and then an internal, gable end wall in the centre of the frame.

There is a small fireplace with an arched top at the base of the gable end wall and two circular windows above it. This combination produces the effect of a shocked face.

There is a chimney at the top of the wall. Above this, blue sky with some light clouds.

One from the archive: three youths on a hilltop on the opposite side of the valley to where we were hiking. Obviously detail is scant but I've always thought that there was something charmingly carefree about the way they were strolling along. ⛳️ #HumansOfBluesky #ThrowbackThursday #ECK
Landscape oriented, 3:2 inage.

Three young men, seen in profile, are strolling in a line from right to left along the top of a hill. The location is the distant edge of a golf course on the far side of a valley. The figures are set against a pale blue sky.

Below them in the foreground is a steep, grass-covered hillside. A wire fence crosses this just beneath the top of the hill.

The first figure, on the left, has a golf club, which he is waving in the air in front of him. The middle figure is pulling along a golf bag on wheels, which is behind him. The final figure, on the right, is pushing a golf bag on wheels ahead of him and is carrying a golf club under his arm.

The image is from September 2013.

It was always a joy to walk through Roych Clough in autumn... Photo: 7 October 2020 🌳 🍂 🥾 #WallsOnWednesday #WednesdayWalls #Landscape #LandscapePhotography #OnThisDay #Nature #Autumn #Fall #Hiking #PeakDistrict #ECK #EastCoastKin
Landscape oriented, 4:3 photo.

An autumnal scene in a valley. A small stream on the left. Grass and rushes across the foreground.

A dry stone wall extends into the frame from the right, forming a U shape in the centre before disappearing into the background towards one of the hillsides above.

There are several trees across the landscape, their leaves beginning their seasonal changes in colour.

Steep-sided hills across the background and heavy cloud in the sky above, although some blue is visible. The sun is shining on the landscape, creating patches of bright light and shadow.

For #RockinTuesday a view of the cairn from a walk up Knocknarea in 2023. Although I have pictures taken closer, I chose this one as the walkers ahead on the path give a sense of just how big it is. 🪨 #TombTuesday #IrishHistory #Archaeology #Ireland #Neolithic #Landscape #Sligo #ECK #EastCoastKin
Landscape-oriented, 3:2 image.

A wide, flat hilltop. There is a path on the right hand side that traces a course through the low-growing vegetation to a massive stone cairn on the horizon. If you zoom in, a group of walkers are approaching the cairn on the path.

Their tiny figures provide a sense of scale, revealing how impressive the Stone Age cairn is - its diameter is around 55 metres (180 feet) and it stands around 10 metres tall (33 feet).

It is a bright, cold January morning. The scene is sunlit and the sky is pale blue and clear aside from a few wisps of high, white cloud.

Landscape oriented, 16:9 image.

A sandy beach in the foreground, still wet from the retreating tide. There is a strip of land at the end of the beach with a bungalow on it to the right hand side and several telegraph or electricity posts.

Behind this a large hill stands on the horizon. It looks like it is looming over the aforementioned strip of land but it is in fact several kilometres away on the far side of an ocean bay.

The hill's steep slopes are forested on the left, while its right hand side is comprised of precipitous limestone cliffs. Towards the left hand side of its broad, flat summit a large neolithic cairn is silhouetted against the sky.

The sky itself is pale blue with scattered light clouds.

Today's Bird of the Day theme is "Bird Supermodel" This pic I took of a Cattle Egret in Arrecife in 2020 always looked to me like it was one from the bird's modelling portfolio. #BirdOfTheDay #BirdSupermodel #BirdsOfBluesky #StrikeAPose #Nature #Wildlife #WildlifePhotography #ECK #EastCoastKin
Portrait-oriented, 3:2 photo.

A sunlit, white bird is standing in a tree with its breast facing the camera. Its head is turned backwards in what could be a dramatic pose for the camera but is in reality just because the egret is preening the feathers over its shoulder.

Soft focus palm leaves in the foreground and blue sky in the background.

An old, rusty piece of farm equipment on a gently sloping, grassy hillside. It has three wheels - two larger ones with thin spokes at the back and a single, smaller and chunkier wheel at the front on the left.

Between the front and back of this machinery, on each side of the frame, there is a metal disc. These are warped and rusted.

The background is almost completely filled by the steep slopes of a large, Lake District mountain. Its slopes are grass-covered too, although there are some areas of exposed bedrock.

There's a small wooden fingerpost to the right of the path, towards the middle of the frame. It is crusted in moss and lichen, and the writing on its single pointer is illegible .

Just right and slightly forward of the fingerpost is an old, stone gatepost. This is standing in isolation with no other remains of a gate structure or wall around it. There is a man-made, square hole through this post near the top.

The words 'Hope Cross' and an arrow are carved into the stone post's surface. It points walkers in the same direction as the fingerpost.

A regular clock face is situated above an arch over a curved recess.

This alcove has two small openings through which a procession of automata passes on a revolving, circular platform. The miniature figures on view are seated in carriages pulled by horses.

The curved back wall of the recess is covered in frescoes, as are panels to the side and above it.

The section shown here extends out from the right hand side of the frame. The outer curve of the structure is on the left hand side of the frame.

The background is grey sky with some light shining through the blanket of cloud.

Curve. 🍃 #Abstractia #Leaves #Abstract #ClassicMono #B&W #BWFri #BNWMacro #MacroMonday #ECK #EastCoastKin
Landscape oriented, 3:2 monochrome image.

Close up photo of a house plant leaf. It forms a parabola, arching upwards from a stem on the right hand side and then down to a point on the left hand side.

The dark underside of the leaf is facing the viewer on the right, while the curve means that the upper face of the leaf is shown across the centre and left hand side of the frame.

The upper part of the leaf is pale with several contrasting dark patches.

There are other leaves below the focus of the image and a light coloured, blank wall in the background.

Sligo, last week. 🌊 #TidesOutTuesday #RockinTuesday #Scape #Seascape #ClassicMono #B&W #ECK #EastCoastKin #Sligo #Ireland
Landscape oriented, monochrome, 16:9 image.

Low level view of a beach when the tide is out. Numerous rounded rocks, half-buried in the sand, stretch out across the strand from the foreground to the right hand side, where they curve back around towards the distant shoreline.

Two low lying islands on the horizon just off shore above the rocks on the right hand side.

There are small, shallow channels of water between some of the rocks and some sit in pools of water. Some have seaweed on and between them.

Open sea on the left in the distance and, just visible, a very hazy line of hills on the far side of the bay.

Light cloud in the sky above.

Given the subject of this week's Alphabet Challenge, I thought I should start by posting a warning to everyone joining in about the dangers of being around heavy machinery. Photo: Wall sign, Granada, July 2019 #AlphabetChallenge #WeekMForMachinery #Travel #ECK #EastCoastKin
Landscape oriented, 3:2 photo.

A triangular warning sign fixed to a wall. The sign has a black border and is pale yellow within the border.

On the right as a black silhouette, it shows a stylised digger with a cabin on top of a caterpillar track. A scoop extends on an arm across to the left hand side.

A human figure, also a black silhouette, is depicted walking blithely towards the left in front of the caterpillar track. The scoop is in front of it. It's not clear whether the figure is about to be run over or scooped up or both.

Mullaghmore Harbour, with the Dartry Mountains in the background, on this day last year. 😎 ⛰️ ☀️ #BlueSkyMonday #BlueMonday #OnThisDay #Scape #MountainMonday #ECK #EastCoastKin #Sligo #Ireland
Landscape oriented, 16:9 photo.

A white sailboat, with sails down, moored up in a harbour. It is situated centrally in the frame, as is the harbour entrance behind it. There are thick stone walls with a walkway along each of them on either side of the entrance. A couple of small vans are parked on the walkway to the left. There are a few small boats moored up against the walls.

A rock and seaweed covered shoreline in the foreground. Open sea beyond the harbour entrance. The sea water within and outside the harbour is calm and blue, reflecting the sky above.

A line of mountains across the horizon. The sky above them is mainly blue with some cumulus cloud in the distance. It is bright and sunny.

Good morning, folks, and happy Monday! I'm a bit late again this week but wherever your journey takes you, I hope you all have a good week... 🥾 Photo: Edale, September 2026 #MondayMotivation #Scape #LandscapePhotography #ECK #EastCoastKin #Hiking #PeakDistrict
Landscape oriented 16:9 photo.

A path running away into the distance through grass in a field. A fence runs parallel to the path on the left. There are trees on the far side of the field across the horizon. The scene is brightly lit by the sun but the sky above ahead of the viewer is grey and cloudy.

#NowListening #ClassicalMusic Schumann: Das Paradies und die Peri Soloists, Le Concert des Nations, La Capella Nacional de Catalunya, Jordi Savall 🎶 Been meaning to get a more modern recording to supplement the one I've had for decades and this does the job very nicely indeed.

Goodbye for now, Saturday... Have a good evening, folks! 👋😎 #Sunset #SunsetsOfBluesky #Fermanagh
Landscape oriented, 16:9 photo.

Sky at sunset. Broken cloud and blue sky just above the horizon, thicker cloud above. Much of the cloud is lit up by the sinking sun and is a fiery mix of orange and yellow hues.

A field and trees on its edges lie across the bottom of the frame, a thin layer of darkness silhouetted against the sky above.
