That might explain why I had so much trouble fitting it back together after going through. I thought it was just me being dopey. 🤣 Yeah, Mount Famine is very pleasing, both to look at and to walk over. 😊

I was on a mission to get as many stile pics as possible for @lakesstiles.bsky.social on my trip so I was very focussed on just that one feature... 😂 I think the liftable gate is a fairly new addition (well, since we moved here). I used to walk that path regularly back in the day. 🤔

I'm afraid my version is a bit "glass half empty" compared to @susanshaped.bsky.social's positive take on the subject. 😂

I got a picture from the other side a couple of weeks ago... Another one from my recent trip, @lakesstiles.bsky.social 😄👍
A ramshackle looking wooden stile on the left, with a rotted step and wonky wooden fence bars. There is an equally wonky dog gate between the stile and a wooden gate post on the right. Surprisingly non-wonky wooden bars extend to the right of the frame from the gate post.

A dry stone wall in the background on the left and moorland on the right.

I can understand why. 👍 We didn't go onn the A5093 - we came in on the A595 and followed it round to the north. We parked in lay-by just south of Townend Hall and went up the path between White Stones and Throstlerake Crag.

Below Black Combe... Photo: April 2022 ⚙️ #AlphabetChallenge #Machinery #WeekMForMachinery #FerrousFriday #Abandoned #Hiking #LakeDistrict #Stunday #Landscape #LandscapePhotography #ECK #EastCoastKin
Landscape oriented, 3:2 image.

An old, rusty piece of farm equipment on a gently sloping, grassy hillside. It has three wheels - two larger ones with thin spokes at the back and a single, smaller and chunkier wheel at the front on the left.

Between the front and back of this machinery, on each side of the frame, there is a metal disc. These are warped and rusted.

The background is almost completely filled by the steep slopes of a large, Lake District mountain. Its slopes are grass-covered too, although there are some areas of exposed bedrock.

Some sky is visible above this, at the very top of the frame. There are some small blue patches but it is mostly filled with cloud.

Meant to say, I got hold of 'Les Troqueurs' & it's a delight - ta for the heads up! When I was cataloguing it, I realised I already have a couple of operas by Dauvergne - 'Hercule Mourant' & this very listenable gem, which I misremembered as being written by someone else (apologies M. Dauvergne!):
Screenshot shot of a Bluesky post, from July 2025, showing that I was listening to Dauvergne's opera "La Vénitienne'.

😄 It's strange because she never digs at home but at the beach she's obsessed with digging up rocks. She usually loses interest once she's done it but if it's one she can't get out of the sand she gets very worked up and starts whining. We have to distract her with something else. 🤣

🪶 Rob has chosen #WingsOpenNotFlying as #BirdOfTheDay theme; birds with their wing open when not flying Alternative is #Blue, birds with blue in their plumage - I’ll go alt with a Blue Tit perched on a small branch in shade #birdphotography #ECK #birds #birdsofbluesky #naturephotography #Stunday
A Blue Tit perched on a small, diagonal willow branch, which comes from the bottom right of the shot and ends in the upper left hand corner. The bird is right of centre of the shot, facing the camera with its head turned to the right so the right side of its head is shown.
The bird has a bright blue crown on its head, its cheeks are white with a black/blue border and eye stripe as well as a line under its short bill. Its underbelly is lemon yellow and its back is green with blue on the wings and tail. Its feet are a bluish grey.
The light on the bird is muted a bit but there is still a shadow of a small branch visible down the centre of the bird. There are three other, out of focus branches in the back ground in the top left, and two towards the bottom right. All follow the direction of the branch the bird is in, more or less.
The background is out of focus grass and vegetation, giving a green and white hue.

Calendula or Pot Marigold, a reliable producer of flowers through summer and well into autumn. And, thankfully, one that's mostly ignored by the many slugs and snails in our yard. 🐌 🌼 #BNWMacro #ClassicMono #B&W #Monochrome #Macro #MacroMonday #BloomScrolling #GardeningBluesky #ECK #EastCoastKin
Landscape oriented, 3:4 monochrome image.

Close up of a single Calendula bloom, with multiple pale petals emanating from a darker centre. The flower form is daisy-like. If the photo had been in colour the petals would be yellow. There are raindrops on the surface of the petals.

The background is out of focus but is mostly a dark mass of foliage against which the bright flower stands out.

An unopened Calendula bud and the edge of a wooden raised bed is visible on the left.

Goodbye for now, Saturday... 👋😎🌄
Landscape oriented, 16:9 image.

Sky at sunset tonight. Bands of cloud and golden light above the horizon. More cloud scattered across the sky above this, similar in style to "mackerel sky", mixed with patches of pale blue.

The sky fills most of the frame but there is a dark line of trees and shrubs, silhouetted against it at the bottom of the frame.

This week's Bluesky Art Show theme is "3rd Place" - anywhere you frequent that isn't home or work. For us, it's the beach whenever we can. 🌊 Photo: Sligo, earlier this afternoon. #BlueSkyArtShow #3rdPlace #ArtChallenge #Seascape #Photography #CoastalWalks #Sligo #Ireland #ECK #EastCoastKin
Landscape oriented, 16:9 image.

View out to sea, with small incoming waves headingtowardstheviewer. A hazy line of hills across the horizon on the far side of the bay. There are bright, sunlit clouds of varying types and forms scattered across the blue sky. The sun is out of shot just above the top of the frame. It is illuminating the sea, lending it a shiny, almost liquid metal quality.

Thetford Forest, my happy place #BlueskyArtShow #3rdPlace #photography #ClassicMono #ECK
Photo taken from the forest floor looking up. The trunks from the surrounding conifer trees converge from the edge of the frame to the tops of the trees at the centre. An overcast but bright sky almost makes the photo look black and white.

A moody moorland scene for this week's #StileSaturday... Photo: Brown Knoll, September 2026 🥾 #LandscapePhotography #Landscape #Hiking #PeakDistrict #ClassicMono #SaturdayMono #ECK #EastCoastKin
Landscape oriented, 16:9 monochrome image.

A wooden stile over a wire fence in the foreground. A path made of reclaimed stone slabs leads to the stile and continues on the other side.

On the other side this changes to a section of exposed bedrock for a short section before the slab-made path reappears and winds away into the distance through the peat moorland that forms the background.

The sky above is cloudy, although there are patches of light amidst the grey.

Today's Bird of the Day theme is "Long Beaks" I'm going with this Curlew in a field on the edge of the Peak District moors in May 2019. #BirdOfTheDay #LongBeaks #WaderWednesday #BirdsOfBluesky #Nature #Wildlife #WildlifePhotography #PeakDistrict #ECK #EastCoastKin
Landscape oriented, 3:2 image.

Zoom in on a large brown and buff, wading bird with a long curved beak. It is seen in profile, looking towards the left hand side of the frame.

The curlew is standing in a field of long grass, on the crest of higher ground, so that it is set against the clear blue sky of the background. Tall grasses and their seedheads are also set against the sky. It is a sunny day.
