I was enchanted & horrified by Taormina in #Sicily. So many people but so wonderfully hilly. Everything is a 20% ascent/descent and climbing the hills we could walk for hours without seeing anyone and later enjoy delicious food and wine on a terrace overlooking the coast and Etna. Bliss! #Italy

For our last five nights on #Sicily #Italy this was the view from our hotel bedroom. Etna was mesmerising and always changing but never boring. This was such a special treat.

Massive confusion in our street tonight. Our paper calendar distributed by the council in January says it is red bin day (although these were emptied last week). The council website says it is a yellow bin day! Some people have gone yellow. Some have decided not to put anything out.

We crossed #Sicily from the north to the southeast and Siracusa and Ortigia. We loved the narrow streets of the island of Ortigia and met lots of cats hanging out. We ate fantastic food, including the amazing MOON vegan restaurant and we walked by the coast in blistering hot weather. #Italy

Cefalu was our next stop in #Sicily #Italy. Such a pretty old town. The hotel had a beach and we had beach towels in our room. When we checked out the staff were astonished that we hadn't been to the beach! Instead, of course, we climbed the mountain, La Rocca, a fascinating place with great views.

Moving the old and malevolent sofa to the garage I caught my big toe! I think the sofa wanted to stay on the living room but it had become so uncomfortable. Five hours later the toe won't stop bleeding so we're in the walk-in centre. At least the dressing technique will be better here 🤕

Still in Palermo #Sicily. We visited Agrigento and the temples and the Turkish Steps on the coast. In Palermo we climbed Monte Pellegrino on the steep zig-zag path. Most people don't go beyond the chapel and so we had the summit woodland and spectacular views to ourselves.

We had a special trip to the island of #Sicily #Italy. We began in Palermo, a lively & beautiful city. The No Mafia tour helped me orientate, as it explained the history of criminality in Sicily & resistance to it. The vinoteca culture with excellent wine & plates of local cheese were a revelation.

Walk around Silverdale in north #Lancashire today with sun and showers and fresh air and birds. Took a flask of coffee and drank this sat in the splendour of Trowbarrow former quarry, which we had to ourselves. The fungus might be turkey tail but I'm no expert.
