There is a more positive spin on this, which is that she will be constrained by No.10's approach. Starmer's administration wanted to punch liberals in the face each day. That's not Burnham's sensibility at all. But no two ways around it. It's a terrible, terrible decision.

Trees aren’t a nice to have: they’re a survival strategy. And it’s not enough to ‘plant & forget’ as happens too often in the UK (whereupon saplings die of thirst). They need watering and nurturing. A massive ongoing spend, but vastly worthwhile. The Woodland Trust is doing good work work on this.

I think my best beloved Bumble is on her way towards the Happy Hunting Ground in the sky. Vet in a couple of hours to confirm. I’m pretty sure that Bumble will either come home to die, or she won’t come home. She’s 20, and moved in with me when she was 6 months old. over half my life ago.
