Wow, when you lie so much that there are consequences. Not included in the correction of course, is the fact that (as reported here) the Ipsos survey “showed more respondents supported than opposed a number of new taxes, including a significant majority in favour of a wealth tax".

I suspect that this doesn't include state taxes in some countries (like payroll taxes in Oz, and income/sales taxes in US states), or separate taxes for retirement (like in the US), but in NZ it includes everything

You see what's going on here, right? The economy is on its ass because neoliberal, trust-da-market policies don't work. So, while we crawl off the bottom, we get treated to endless 'might it be this other thing' stories. Ghouls.

Unsurprisingly, @slanecartoon.bsky.social was on to this almost 20 years ago, in 2007. #nzpol
A cartoon by Chris Slane (slanecartoon.com). It shows: on the left, a grey haired white man sitting behind a wooden desk with a curved window behind him. On a sofa to the right, two people are sitting: a man in a blue suit and a woman wearing a red jacket. The man is saying, “Minister, to avoid F.O.I. requests all our advice will be in sign language.” The cartoon shows the woman is moving her hands in different ways as she translates that statement into sign language. The face of the man behind the desk looks disconcerted and worried.

The sombre conclusion to Thomas Coughlan's review of 'Dirty Work' in the Herald, which dwells on the way the book relies on sources rather than documents. www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/politics/...
The most compelling thing the book may say is about journalism itself. There’s little doubt the ugly tactics Hager has revealed in previous books persist. But advances in encryption and data security make leaking large troves of correspondence increasingly difficult and traceable.

The bigger question posed by books like this isn’t so much whether Dirty Politics goes on, but whether we’ll continue to find out about it.
