"Smart Growth Plan" ft. D5 candidate Julie Kang #doomloop #bretthamil
JULIE KANG: You can’t put more housing in neighborhoods where people already live! They might not like it!
[in front of easel that reads "D5 Smart Growth Plan"] That’s why I’ve identified several sites in District 5 that everyone would be ok with
[gesturing at map] Here’s a nice lot between the tow yard and the hazardous waste transfer station [*actual example]
[pointing at picture of a culvert with brackish water running out of it] Here’s a lovely tract just downhill from the raw sewage sluice!
[picture of a tar pit surrounded by trees with a washing machine, a bike, and various garbage sinking into it] and there’s also the Weeping Tar Bog of Northgate
-All of these places would be *perfect* for renters!

Society needs to crack down on this *somewhere*. If you're not going to punish the parents for abusing their children with their crank ideas, you'd better crack down on the businesses profiting from the crank ideas. If we don't, society has decided parents poisoning their kids for fun is OK

Other than the ridiculously wide roads, Las Vegas may be a fairly sustainable city. Nonfunctional landscaping banned, extensive water recycling, access to plenty of solar power, and higher elevation than Phoenix so 5-10 degrees cooler.

An electric car reduces climate pollution by ~ 70% compared to gasoline car, if driven same number of miles. But a gasoline car driven 70% fewer miles -- because the driver now lives in walking or transit distance of most of their trips -- *reduces pollution by the same amount as an electric car.*

Dont ask "should we have data centers", ask... Should we put AI in everything? Is the model of 'buying licenses' for media vs outright ownership of physical copies preferred by the public? How critical are streaming services? Does everything need a data dashboard and SMA?

While discussing datacenters with my wife last night, points regarding how they are more efficient and less resource intensive than people think came up. For me, resource usage was always a poor argument. I am against the sudden proliferation of datacenters on a more fundamental level.

*taps sign* The government running party primary elections instead of letting parties pick their own nominees in the manner of their choosing is a weird American thing that eviscerates the fundamental purpose of political parties and it's bad, actually.

When there isn't enough housing, it gets rationed, and in a world where lots of people own brownstones, we ration it by price. And thanks to the weight of racism and history, white people are richer on average. This is downstream of inadequate construction throughout NYC and the whole metro area.
