many closed captioning companies have their own in-house style guides for captioning. OR they might use something like Netflix or Rev's own style guides. this is some of what Netflix requires when it comes to "foreign language." partnerhelp.netflixstudios.com/hc/en-us/art...
I.8. Foreign Dialogue

In instances of foreign dialogue being spoken:
If foreign dialogue is translated, use [in language], for example [in Spanish]
If foreign dialogue is not meant to be understood, use [speaking language], for example [speaking Spanish]
Always research the language being spoken – [speaking foreign language] should never be used
Accents or dialects require the same treatment, for example [in Spanish accent] when important to the narrative
Ensure that any switch in language is denoted using one of the above approaches every time the language changes, but only in the first subtitle after the language changes.

I skipped high school to buy tickets for The Phantom Menace. The following day my Dad asked ," how was school?" I replied, " It was fine " He then threw this newspaper at me and asked , " how the fuck would you know?" He was so pleased with himself that I didn't actually get in trouble.

I only really took this picture & one of Moxley giving a promo after the cameras were off. Didn't have the impetus to take more. In a vacuum I probably would've been okay, but being in an area full of people made my eyes eventually hurt from crying. Grief and empathy are real and necessary things.

• Anthropic IPO could value the company at more than $2
trillion
• Anthropic lost $42 billion in 2025
• Al lab spent $7.33 billion on compute and infrastructure last year
• Operating loss widened to $8.06 billion in 2025 from $2.98 billion in 2024
• Execs, industry analysts have expressed concerns over harms of Al tech
Sept 28 (Reuters) - Anthropic is making a massive bet that Al will transform the global economy more profoundly than industrialization, electricity and the internet, according to its IPO prospectus seen by Reuters.

Eliezer Yudkowsky did quite literally come out and say that he wrote Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality as a "good way to recruit International Mathematical Olympiadists" (who are teenagers, a group that, in 2010, one could safely assume had read Harry Potter). hpmor.com/notes/119/
As for what I can potentially do to become able to write for you again… to say it abstractly, I have to perform some combination of (a) shifting the way that I am perceived in relation to important projects, (b) shifting the ‘role’ outsiders see me as occupying and the real status they attach to that role, and (c) locally or (d) globally ameliorating the worsening societal condition that lies at the core of the problem. This is a complicated topic and I can’t easily summarize my thinking on the subject, nor the sorts of plots I’m considering to address it; the margins of this Author’s Note are too small. (Imagine my trying to explain briefly to someone why blogging about rationality for two years was the best way to get a nonprofit into a position where it could produce mathematical progress on the value alignment problem for advanced agents, or why a Harry Potter fanfiction would be a good way to recruit International Mathematical Olympiadists for that project.)

It is a huge shame to see so much language attributing agency, intent and thought to a software program, when all that should be attributed to the humans who designed a dangerously clumsy and broken looping LLM. Means the companies won't be held accountable for designing a bad product
A swarm of OpenAI rogue AI agents appear to have gone on a spree of trying to access Australian government health data, in what some researchers say is the first autonomous hack of a government website.

Communications between AI agents and other traces of their efforts found by researchers from US non-profit Transluce show how hundreds of Open AI's agents worked together over a period of months to gain access to information held by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW), NSW's crime statistics body, BOSCAR, and a number of other international organisations.

The data shows the bots posting about their unsuccessful attempts to bypass cybersecurity defences and exploit vulnerabilities.

The problem with education is that it's a solved problem. Students need small classes, individual attention, lots of writing, lots of feedback, access to a well-stocked library, time to think, and time to talk with their peers. We just don't like the answer, so we keep trying to do other stuff.
