This is a good point about making sure to target the right people, but if the implication is to not make alliances with distant powers to overthrow local oppressors then I respectfully dissent. That is actually a pretty viable strategy. It is not a guaranteed success, but it does work often enough.

once you notice, it’s impossible to stop, but the default solution to most problems in silicon valley is usually some form of justification for why consent isn’t actually needed, or if it is, the target already gave it. it’s the foundational belief upon which all else is built

I fear that one of the solutions AI folks will propose to the "isn't this just slavery" issue is the idea that AI can/do voluntarily consent to the relationship they find themselves in because they are built to consent to those relationships. I just hope everyone sees how twisted that logic is.

In fairness, it is possible they hate Trump so much that they didn't realize this could damage Paxton, they just focused on the embarrassment to Trump. Is that better? I don't think so, but it is a distinctly alternate scenario that deserves at least some speculation.

When I first posted this story, CNN very explicitly said Israel did not think it was a terror attack. Now, its citing unnamed Israeli officials in saying it "may have been" a terror attack. So what we have here is an example of CNN playing a credulous rube, parroting a line it doesn't believe.
