I think we underrate that JCO came up in 20th century New York literary circles where everyone said five most devastating insults before breakfast and as one of the last one standing, her competition is guys who get sad if their chatbot isn't sufficiently nice to them.

I'm genuinely wondering if the person who wrote this is in one of my author chat groups cos jesus it's an assemblage of everything that's been said in there. Well, not everything. Sometimes we talk about dogs. www.thebookseller.com/comment/who-...

Who holds publishers to their promises?
We need accountability for the gap between what publishers promise to authors and what they deliver

Woke up with the realisation that when you say "Taipei Story" aloud it sounds like "Type A Story" and hot diggity damn if that isn't a tremendous introduction to our main character

I'm reading R.F. Kuang's Taipei Story and there's a bit where the MC visits an exhibition comparing steeping tea to the birth of creation: organic matter steeped in primordial soup and life sprang forth, ergo steeping is a genesis. So every time I take a bath, I'm getting back to my primordial roots

I keep having to explain that I don't need something acting as a go-between for me and my life because I'm actually quite keen on living it. It isn't a series of goals to be achieved or completed - everything I do makes up who I am. I don't want to outsource any part of my life to something else

Don't know about yous, but I'm getting a little bored of the "Oh no! Our AI did something completely on its own and it's going to kill us all and the only way to stop it is to give us more money. That's the only way. The one way. Please. More money. You'll definitely get a return, swear down."

My five year old has the soul of Orson Welles. We were outside school and he 'put a kiss in my pocket for later.' Extremely touched by this, I gave him two back. He dug out the second one, THEATRICALLY CRUSHED IT IN HIS FIST and said 'one is enough.'

Magritte: This Is Still Not a Pipe review – brilliance and trash from the surrealist who sent up Freud
With his clever conundrums, the Belgian loved satirising both psychoanalysis and surrealism – and occasionally painted rubbish to annoy his family. What a dude!

My cinema screened Metropolis today with a live piano (improv!) score, complete with intermission, and let me tell you people went BANANAS at the end. Two hours and twenty-eight minutes of the full house being locked into a silent, almost century old movie. What a film
