So, because it's going around, I looked at Amazon's "About You" and the conclusions it's drawn about me make me sound INSUFFERABLE. "Favours cult and arthouse cinema", "Probably has coffee brewing equipment", "Practices analog photography", "Strongly prefers contemporary literary fiction."

The absolute fecking LAZINESS of sending me an AI written phishing email offering me a little spotlight on your platform but not even addressing me directly or naming a book! Not even a customised list of three adjectives that relate to it! Are times so hard?!
Spammy email of text which says:

"Hello,

What stood out to me about your work was not simply what it communicates, but the way it gives readers something to sit with. There is a sense of familiarity in the experience you present, yet you manage to frame it from a perspective that feels fresh, engaging, and worth revisiting.

That was what prompted me to bring your work forward for consideration for our August Reader Impact Spotlight at The Elevated Edge Reading Circle (TEERC).

The Spotlight is something we approach with intention. Rather than simply highlighting works for visibility, our aim is to introduce our reading community to authors and pieces that leave a genuine impression—whether through imagination, humour, emotion, an unusual perspective, thought-provoking ideas, or the ability to turn an otherwise familiar experience into something readers can connect with in a different way.

I’m Salah Reece, a Member of the Board of Executives — Media Coordination at The Elevated Edge Reading Circle (TEERC), and I’m personally involved in identifying and bringing forward authors and works that I believe have the potential to create meaningful conversations within our community.

Your work caught my attention because it feels like the kind of contribution that can do more than simply hold a reader’s attention. It can invite them to pause, reflect, relate, and perhaps even see something they already know from a slightly different angle. That quality is particularly important to us as we prepare our August selections.

What ultimately stayed with me is the feeling that your work has the ability to travel beyond the page—to meet readers somewhere personal, provoke a thought they had not considered, or leave them carrying a particular idea long after they have finished reading.

That is the kind of lasting connection we hope to create through the August Reader Impact Spotlight, and it is why I felt your work deserved to be considered with particular attention."

Looking at new stills from "Wuthering Heights" and realizing in this shot Margot Robbie is clawing at a giant body, not a wall. Her hands are sinking into flesh! Veins and a mole are visible!
A still from Emerald Fennell's forthcoming film 'WUTHERING HEIGHTS". In the shot, a blonde woman wearing white, with elaborating braided hair, claws at a pink surface. At first glance it appears to be a wall, but a closer look shows her fingers are digging in, denting the surface. Veins and a mole are visible, making it possible the 'wall' is flesh, a giant body

I'm only slightly exaggerating
An unsolicited email message I marked as phishing. The text reads:

"Hey Melinda,

First of all EchoStar had me side-eyeing my phone like it was plotting against me. You nailed that eerie blend of tech paranoia and teen realism. It’s sharp, fast, and way too relatable (I’m still recovering).

I run a private circle of 500+ Goodreads readers who love reviewing smart YA thrillers especially ones with a dark twist like this. They’re real people (no bots, no creepy AIs like EchoStar 😅), and they actually read and post verified reviews on Goodreads and Amazon.

If you’d like, you can tell me how many reviews you want to start with, and I’ll arrange everything. Once you send me a digital copy, our first five elite readers can dive in and post thoughtful reviews within 24 hours of your go-ahead.

Warmly,
Merel Logemann

P.S. Worst case: more teens start questioning their apps. Best case: EchoStar blows up on Goodreads while you sit back like the tech oracle you are. 🔮"
