I feel like portraying it as a fringe theological dispute between catholic sects over the 2nd vatican council and finger pointing over who's a heretic, rather than as a conflict with a fringe far right sect that says Jews are going to hell and Muslims are rapists hides the general interest aspect.

this line is a banger and it really crystallizes what’s wrong with the reactionary far right just about everywhere. what is “tradition”? who gets to decide what we keep and what we toss out and how it evolves?
The true crucial question is what Tradition is, and above all who is to safeguard it while allowing our understanding of Tradition to grow under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

Btw we already had someone to do 11.7% of work tasks, they were called "a secretary" and the suits decided it was cheaper to make everyone do their own emails and schedules. But you can add up any number of secretaries and still not get one programmer, or architect, or nurse.

Just like a basketball!
Title: "Proof that a basketball is flat!"

A closeup photo of the surface of a basketball, too close to see the ball's curvature. Inset is a picture of the photography setup for the basketball.

"I used the zetetic method to examine whether a basketball is really a ball, or is it actually flat. Upon taking a closer look with a macro lens on my Nikon P900, I can only conclude that the surface of a basketball, while bumpy, does not appear to have any curvature. Therefore, basketballs are flat. Their roundness must be some kind of illusion caused by perspective and mirages."

People were arguing in my mentions today about whether the Earth is "round" when it's technically an irregular oblate spheroid and look "round" doesn't mean "absolutely perfect sphere" it means round. A soccer ball is round, a cantaloupe is round, a fluffy borb in winter is round, just go with it.

It’s widely known (and, I think, pretty uncontroversial) that learning requires effort — specifically, if you don’t have to work at getting the knowledge, it won’t stick. Even if an LLM could be trusted to give you correct information 100% of the time, it would be an inferior method of learning it.

It's also remarkable how evident it is that Trump isn't a person anymore so much as a placeholder, a loud, obnoxious empty suit. He's not in charge of anything. He's just humored now and then, for the sake of manipulation. What a pathetic situation for all of us.

when I was young, i used to wonder how people like this would fare in life, as they didn't seem suited for gainful employment. it turns out, the internet allowed them to accumulate a massive audience of similar idiots, enriching them and turning them into a presidential advisor

Fish have committed credit card fraud
Credit card fraud
Black neon tetras committed credit card fraud during a 2023 livestream by "Mutekimaru Channel" on YouTube. The owner was using motion-tracking software to turn the fish's movements into Nintendo Switch inputs, letting them "play" video games. 8 In 2020, the fish beat Pokemon Sapphire after 3,195 hours, a feat that takes about 30 hours for a typical human. 9/ 181 On January 14, 2023, Pokémon Violet crashed at 1,144 hours, giving the fish free access to the main menu. They entered inputs that opened Nintendo eShop, added 500 yen ($3.85 USD) to their owner's account, and exposed his credit card details on the livestream. 10) 11) Mutekimaru later requested a refund of the 500 yen from Nintendo. l12)
"Fish eagerly read the terms and conditions. Many of us humans don't read the terms of service, but fish are smarter than we are"
- caption from Mutekimaru in a video about the incident 12)
The fish also downloaded an N64 emulator, set up PayPal, used reward points to buy an avatar, and changed Mutekimaru's Nintendo account name to
"ROWAWAWA*". 13, After about seven hours, their movements shut down the Switch. 14)
