I find it honestly astonishing that, 2 weeks left in the election, the incumbent mayor who literally rode in via bike on her first day in office, surrounded by like-minded community, is nowhere to be seen/heard as bike lanes are being torn out and members of same community are arrested. #topoli

This is why I believe CBC Gem has to go no ads. Its primary goal should be to get Canadian culture to as many Canadians as possible - and people interested in the content actively avoid it because of the ads especially in the English "market".

"Both AI doomers & boosters are working toward the same goal: they present AI as an inevitability, rather than a set of technologies built by humans, and for the benefit of some humans over others," writes @lukestark.bsky.social. I read this paragraph & think of Carney's focus on AI self-policing:
If we accept the myth that AI is an unstoppable, autonomous force, then we also elevate the heads of these companies as the ultimate authorities on how these systems should be regulated. People like Dario Amodei and Sam Altman become the only ones who can control this mysterious technology, the only ones who can tell governments what should be done about it, and the only people who can save us from it. AI companies repeatedly field calls to pause or slow development of their technology, yet they never fully stop. This suggests their apocalyptic rhetoric is a marketing red herring that inflates the influence of these companies and the inevitability of their products.

As far as bringing back the rotary phone, you can pretty much forget that. Every analog (POTS) phone is associated with a port on a central office that is set up to work with a particularly signaling system. Touch-tone phones use DTMF (Dual-Tone Multi-Frequency) signalling. 6/7
