Tommy M. McGuire (Not that one. Nor that one.) Coding bum, tetrapod. (he/him) Bitterly cynical misanthrope. It's always more complicated. I apologize in advance; I tend to get too comfortable. Called 'weird' by Kevin Kruse.

PANEL 1: A white bulldog with grey ears and patches sits wearing a human’s button-up tshirt with yellow tie, glasses crooked on his face. Next to him stands a brown chow-chow with a blue tie around his neck. In between them sits a red stapler.
BULLDOG: G’morning, employee! Rise and grind!
CHOW CHOW: I have not had enough coffee for this.

PANEL 2: The bulldog leans in to the chow chow whose eyes are wide.
BULLDOG: You working hard, or hardly working?
CHOW CHOW: First I drink the coffee, then I do the things.

PANEL 3: The bulldog smiles as the chow chow looks exasperated.
BULLDOG: Welp! Another day, another dollar.
CHOW CHOW: Coffee is the only thing getting me through the day.

PANEL 4: A fawn great dane pokes his head in to the scene, the bulldog looks up at him, the chow chow continues to look stressed.
GREAT DANE: AW! Are you guys playing human without me?
CHOW CHOW: Don’t even coffee to me about coffee until I’ve had my coffee.

Not really what I was hoping for from Debating Medieval Europe, but this second volume had a nice chapter on the Great Schism (and how it was the prologue of the Reformation and the religious wars).

One thing that is very striking when you do this is that Ars Magica’s personality traits are a kind of faint echo of Pendragon’s Traits but less strong largely because an Ars Magica character is a more naturalistic kind of person.

Have you seen the news about Andrew Tate, eels, and horses, and wondered, "WTF, man?" Well, friends...I'm here to tell you: it's not new. In medieval & early modern England, horse sellers practiced feaguing: inserting a live eel into the horse's rectum to get the animal to act more lively. 🗃️🧪
Meme. Still from the movie "El Dorado" with a very surprised looking grey horse standing next to a man with long blond hair. The man's arms are crossed, and his head is tilted as if he's looking down. His eyes are not, though. They are cutting towards the horse to gauge its reaction. The horse's jaw is dropped, and its eyes are wide like victorious marbles. The man and the horse are standing in a window or doorway, with heavy red drapes. Behind them, the sun seems to be setting over green hills. It is also setting over the horse's innocence.

An alternative reading of the scene might suggest that the horse isn't surprised at all, but rather is singing lustily. The man, rather than having just delivered bad news, is waiting to come in. The curtains suggest a stage, and the two of them are are singing a duet to an enraptured audience; perhaps "I Got You, Babe" or "Islands in the Stream."

Meme text reads:
"When you explain feaguing
to your trusted steed"

Sometimes my wife and I like to send each other text messages as though they’re democratic fundraising messages, and I believe she has produced the jewel of the form.
, it's
and I
have some personal news to share with you.
Being a mom is one of the greatest joys of my life, and I feel deeply that we should have salad tonight
This year has been challenging in many ways, and I have immense gratitude for the kindness and support of family, community, and people like you who have continued to stand by me through everything. It means the world, and I wanted you to be among the first to know that squash is in the oven and kale is in the fridge. As many of you are aware, ve been navigating one of the most challenging periods of my day while waiting for dinner.
Facing baseless federal hunger brought on by not eating since lunch, fighting for the working kids of this country, and now caring for a mean toddler and helping him grow up in a world that isn't always easy. But it has also reminded me exactly why I do this work and who I do it for.
I will never stop working to eat dinner. I will never stop fighting for what is right, even when there is also some feta in the fridge. And I will never stop being so very thankful that you are by my side in this important work and that there is tahini in the pantry for dressing
With love and gratitude,
stop to end
