Congratulations to @jakubegan.bsky.social, @brozlab.bsky.social et al. A nice reminder that lipid acyl chains are not just defining binding interactions. They tune membrane curvature and flexibility, adding an additional layer of regulation to protein activity and cellular signalling

Still wrapping my head around the fact that it’s finally out!! 🎉 From hypothesis in 2017 to data in 2020, it took 5 more years to fully prove the story. Long road for a lipid inhibitor, but worth it. Wonder how long a Nature paper takes… maybe I’ll find out soon! 😉 #ResearchLife

Pyroptotic cell corpses are crowned with F-actin-rich filopodia that engage CLEC9A signaling in incoming dendritic cells - Nature Immunology
Pyroptotic cell death results in inflammation. Here the authors find that F-actin-rich structures formed during macrophage pyroptosis persist after cell death to activate dendritic cells.

How do macrophages sense SARS-CoV-2 infection to drive inflammation (protective or disease causing) in COVID-19? Our 2023 paper in Science Signalling helps explain 🧵 www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

Macrophage ACE2 is necessary for SARS-CoV-2 replication and subsequent cytokine responses that restrict continued virion release
ACE2 in macrophages promotes infection that enables an intrinsic antiviral response to SARS-CoV-2.
