Cornell police edited Jane Doe's statement. Are we in pitchforks and torches territory yet? I think we are close. "As we now know, Cornell police also condensed down Doe's statement, omitting crucial details including the fact that she said she was 100 percent confident she’d been raped."

I’ve been reminiscing with friends about Take Back the Night rallies we did at Cornell in the late 90s, and how now it’s our high school daughters planning rallies and signing petitions and it’s just incredibly demoralizing how little has changed.

We should absolutely protect Jane Doe and talk about what we can learn from the failures before, during, and after the harm in this case, but we gotta keep pointing out that this is but one case in an overwhelming, gigantic sea of experiences like this.

as always, the answer here is to listen to survivors and then to push for actual, meaningful change. but when that doesn't happen, the focus shifts to pressuring survivors to relive their trauma and share it in public forums, be confronted by it in public forums, and THEN have nothing happen

This ⬇️ feeling expresses the nihilism I’ve heard so strongly in #Boston streets. If the Wu administration doesn’t address it, we’re going to have a much bigger problem than simply rising road violence - we will have progressive city that does not believe government can help. #Bospoli #VisionZero

One of the hardest things about being a cyclist is dealing with the nagging feeling that a serious crash is inevitable. Because you can indeed do everything "right" and it still does not matter.
I followed every precaution and it didn’t matter

New to biking here

I started in July around the time of the fatal car crash with that biker. That and hearing everyone who bikes to work tell me that they have had horrid experiences with cars was disheartening.

I made sure to only use protected routes. I take Southwest corridor for basically my whole trip and even though it adds so much more time to my commute, it makes me feel safe.

None of that mattered because at some point, even for a second you will hit the main road. And you will always lose to the 4 ton machine. I got hit by a car parking in the bike lane. He was more concerned with his car than the fact that I could have my life potential altered forever because he was looking at his phone. And at the end of the day, the police can literally choose to not respond to your 911 call and you get stuck with medical bills.

It’s hard to have a conversation about sharing the road when people in cars feel entitled to do whatever they want and the only person who’s ever in danger is the biker. I love biking in this city and I have found a really love and joy for the outdoors because of it. Now I am terrified to even get on a bike lane, even if there is one, if it’s shared with the main road.

If you want to really know how the outrage machine gets fired up: 1. Schmitt plans to drop “bombshell” on Smith 2. Someone plants story that Schmitt is a Vance VP contender to run same day 3. Right-wing Twittersphere gets talking points 4. Schmitt steps in it 5. Scheduled tweets go out anyway

To quote a @chrislhayes.bsky.social jape at the Roberts Court: "They go fast when they want to go fast and slow when they want to go to slow and the decision is *always* an ideological one."
Steve Vladeck, a professor a Georgetown Law, writes up breaking developments from the Supreme Court. The last post in the three-post thread is the kicker, for our purpose here.

"#BREAKING: Over dissents from the three Democratic appointees, #SCOTUS grants a stay in the third-country removals case; clears way for Trump admin. to continue removing non-citizens without a full chance to litigate the conditions in those countries (while also taking up the full merits appeal).

"Link: [URL of a supremecourt.gov PDF]

"By my math, the order was filed 11 minutes after the Trump administration's reply brief came in."

So, as someone with a jot of experience at a large food bank, here is my main concern: the way food banks meet needs is because they purchase in bulk quantities directly from the federal government. What happens to their operations when they can’t access federal stockpiles and funds anymore?

There needs to be more writing on how homosexual, in the sense of man-loving, the modern conservative man actually is. They idolize masculine figures in sports, war, and film and only seem to want women around to make more of themselves.
