Fantastic interview with Ian Hislop on journalism and satire. I especially like how he keeps emphasising that being a journalist (or cartoonist) is skilled work, takes time and deserves to be paid properly. If we don't pay for journalism, we will get nothing but "content" youtu.be/TCOdomjE0dw?...

Amichai Chikli, minister of diaspora affairs in Israel says British Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood (like New York Mayor Mandami) is a dangerous Islamist. The occasion for this prejudice is new phase of community sponsorship of refugees (begun by David Cameron 2016) + Likud's election campaign

Years of discrimination against the LGBTQIA+ community, continuing homophobia and transphobia, all coupled with ageism. Older LGBTQIA+ facing ongoing discrimination/ stereotyping/judgment. Things were meant to be better by now. Instead they just seem to go backwards. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Adam Porter, a housing development manager from the LGBT Foundation charity, says he regularly meets older members of the community in exactly that situation.

"It's very common for people to hide things if they have a carer visiting their home, for example hiding their wedding photos or taking down a trans flag," he says.

"In the case of someone moving into a care environment, that means hiding who they are in their own home, for what could be the rest of their life."

As #PrideMonth continues, let’s remember: ➡️ Trans Rights 🤝 Reproductive Rights ️➡️ Gender-affirming care is essential health care. ➡️ No matter how someone identifies, they deserve access to affordable and high-quality care.
White and yellow text on a violet banner says, "Trans rights & reproductive rights are inextricably linked in the fight for bodily autonomy." Below is a map of the US with color coding to show that 26 states ban gender-affirming care for youth, and 13 of those states also have abortion bans.

I agree with this but also IMO this incoherence is part of why there's such intense frustration. It doesn't even feel like a smart, outcomes based growth-first model, it often feels more like an unthinking acceptance of truisms, including many about growth, and many of which contradict each other
