What proportion of the NHS capacity problem that the NCS is supposed to alleviate actually sits in the older population that would be covered by the new entitlement? If nobody has that number, then claims about NHS savings from the NCS are considerably less robust than they might appear

Will it be completely composed of private companies fleecing us? Any service like this needs to be nationalised, so that carers are paid properly and private companies can't rob the taxpayer blind. I paid over two grand a week for my mother's care... Of that, the carer got about 400!

82 yr old spent day waiting for a bed in my wife’s overcrowded bay yesterday. Lots of people sitting on chairs waiting for beds. So goes to have a look for a bed herself. Finds a bay down the corridor with empty beds. No one seems to know about them so she asks permission and gets the guy into bed

Casey’s eventual definition of “universal” will matter. Universal free personal care for older people is one fiscal proposition. Universal care based on assessed need regardless of age is a substantially bigger commitment. But maybe government have given Casey a clue to what they expect

First time in a year had to put petrol in a motorcar tank. Nearly fell over when saw price of 4* unleaded - £1.94/litre! That is between 30-40% increase of 2023! Guess this must be higher end pricing but also see diesel at £2/litre. If gov does not act in next budget will cripple homes and economy
