Benefits like: All the art sucks now, all the writing sucks now, every website and app runs like shit, every search engine is broken, the environment is being poisoned, jobs are being lost, and all your creative output and also photos of your family are being feasted on like carrion.

Part of the reason media like Coraline and Over the Garden Walk is so beloved is that we don’t make enough actual horror media for young audiences.

I’m just sitting here watching a Man Carrying Thing video and I get served an 8 minute AI generated ad where Lego people explain to me that the entire world is controlled by the bloodlines of Nephilim and that there are secret Ethiopian Bible chapters that teach you how to use angelic soul powers?

i should clarify, when i write people doing bad things, it's because i am bad. they are me. more importantly, when you read about those bad things, they also become you. that's how story works. in fact, you are going to think about murder before this skeet ends. how's that feel, sicko.

Definitely click through on this story for the quotes from the Third Way spokesperson, who AGREED Democratic candidates should NOT adopt Republican language on trans issues. I was floored - even tried to get Billie to put it in the headline. This is not just analysis, these quotes are news.

Norway has solution to this actually, stay at home parents can get their share of the public daycare subsidy as cash, that way parents are not pushed one way or the other. the problem of course is virtually no one on the center or right actually gives a shit about parents

This is what happens when you get loud and demand Dems not drop trans people. We CAN get orgs to realize this. But we can’t stop with Kaptur. She’s the worst but not the only one. There is NO acceptable anti-trans vote or statement or ad from a Democrat. None. GET LOUDER!

LOL, the gotcha part in the second paragraph is truly hilarious. Who will think of the straight white rightwing men in the literary world? WHO? WHO?
Last week, the longlists for the National Book Awards were announced. Among the 20 authors in the fiction and nonfiction categories, nearly all are straight white males. Most are also on the political right, some even on the far right. Remarkably, mainstream media outlets haven’t reported this, perhaps because they don’t think it’s noteworthy. It’s as if we were living in 1956 rather than 2026.

If you’re scratching your head at this “news,” well, it’s because I made it up. Or rather, I inverted the particulars about the authors’ identities and their political views to make a point: If today, as a reader, you recoil at the thought of a time in which minorities were systematically marginalized when it came to the literary world’s public honors (and so much else), shouldn’t you also recoil now that the tables have been almost completely turned? And if you object to the right’s efforts to politicize the arts, won’t you also object when the efforts come from the left?

Macklemore just announced he’s donating the $1 million he made from Sheeran’s tour to 6 organizations to support Palestinians and he’s asking Robert Kraft to match it. This is just the first part announcing it.
With everything that has happened over the last 48 hours, I want to bring the conversation back to where it belongs: to the Palestinian people who are still being killed, still living under military occupation, and still fighting for their freedom.
I will be donating the entire $1 million of my net earnings from Ed Sheeran's Loop Tour to six organizations working directly to support the Palestinian people. And I invite Robert Kraft to match my donation. Whatever we disagree about, perhaps we can agree on this: Palestinian lives are worth protecting. A Palestinian life is no less valuable than any other life on this earth.

Beth March Returns from the Dead comes out in 28 weeks! Here is the galley letter I wrote to convince fancy people* to give the book a shot. Maybe it will convince you too? Preorder right here: zandoprojects.com/books/beth-m... It helps me a bunch. *-book critics are VERY fancy
Shortly after finalizing my debut novel Woodworking, I began pondering two questions that initially seemed to be seeds for very different books:
1)	If you put a trans woman at the center of a Christmas romance, does the genre fall apart?
2)	How broken does a family have to be before everybody calls it a day?
Well, why not both? And why not write a book about the messy dynamics among adult sisters, too? Especially if I could nod to Lou Alcott’s beloved March sisters.
In Beth March Returns from the Dead, Beth—yes, she named herself after the saintly dead girl—goes back to Duluth, Minnesota, for the first time in over a decade to a family she only recently reconciled with. Tom Vega, with whom she had a clandestine fling in high school, still lives next door. Will sparks fly? (Sparks fly.)
To me, Beth straddles two very different literary traditions: the romance novel, where happy endings abound, and the so-called Great American Novel, which aims to capture snapshots of my country, warts and all. What would happen, I wondered, if I put these two traditions in a jar together and made them fight?
The result is a book about chosen families, the intersection of queer identities and heterosexuality, our ongoing decade of calamity, and the rich inner lives of freshwater fish.
I love this book and its characters so much. I hope you like it too. Thank you for considering it!
