If you don't live in DC, may be hard to appreciate scale of nihilist, grifter-based desecration of what has always distinguished the nation's capital, and what so many people have worked so hard for so long to sustain and improve. Backhoe-based counterpart to wartime damage we see in news footage.

dc statehood is non-negotiable after trump's actions in his second term. republicans despise the people of the city that hosts them, and there is little reason to think that, now that the seal is broken on treating them as an occupied population, a next republican president will be more restrained

Ossoff is acting like Trump/MAGA/GOP and what they’ve done to the country is Actually Bad. Charismatic and well spoken, which sure helps. But no “my friends across the aisle,” no acting like the imaginary “Baileys” are the only ones who matter, no “don’t talk values, only kitchen table.” That’s it.

I know everyone’s jaded and exhausted by the continual parade of madness, but this is the president of US openly inciting racist violence against an entire community of immigrants. (w/ alt text)
The once Great State of Minnesota is being taken over by Somali Immigrants. There is Violence, Murder, and Mayhem all over the State. The people of Minnesota must fight back. You have been robbed, and abandoned by your State Government. Your Governor is an incompetent thief who doesn't want to get involved. He just wants to get out of town with as much as he can steal, and then, lead a quiet life. The Somalians should not be allowed to get away with what they are doing.
They view you as weak and stupid people. Fight back Minnesota, fight back! If you need, the Federal Government will come to your rescue.
Governor Tim Walz, and Mayor of Minneapolis, Jacob Frey, must immediately ask for Federal help — and leave the rest to us! President DONALD J. TRUMP

Every time I see "AI" being crammed into another consumer product I think of how in the 50s we put radium in suppositories because "the atom" was the snakeoil hype of the moment
A worn box with a green printed label: "15 day course / VITA RADIUM SUPPOSITORIES / Guaranteed to contain Real Refined Radium and to be perfectly harmless. / The Home Products Co. Denver, Colorado."A brown glass vial with a cork and a label that reads, "RADITHOR / CERTIFIED RADIOACTIVE WATER / Contains Radium and Mesothorium in a Triple Distilled Water"

1) If you're considering submitting a story -- or are approached to create art for any publications that Must Read Magazines owns, including Asimov's -- walk away. Their current contracts are too predatory and do not suitably value you, your work or your rights. There will be other opportunities. 2/

This is a good illustration of how so much of AI theft isn't indirect (ie, data sucked into a model to train the chatbot) - it's actually **direct** copying, but *enabled* by GenAI. Of course it is: chatbots absolutely suck at creating good, new stuff.
