In Super Mario 64, the haunted chairs and normal chairs are actually the exact same object, whose behavior is determined solely by how close it is to the piano. Chairs close to the piano get it assigned as a parent object. Only parentless chairs are coded to become haunted.

I wanted to start playing the piano but since even the cheapest half decent keyboards are expensive as fuck (Yamaha p45 and Roland fp10 are the ones I was looking into) I think for the time being I'll just dust off the electronic drum set and buy a throne for it (which is why i never started)
