Meet my newest fabric art creation: Gussss Bonecrackle the Semi-Cursed Neolithic Statue. I designed and hand-sewed him. Gussss spends much of his time inflicting mildly inconvenient curses on jerks. jeremycreature.bigcartel.com
Here's a lovely photo of Gussss. I have to be careful adding the correct amount of s's in his name because he's not happy when I get that wrong. He's a fabric art statue of sorts, with two wide set black, oblong eyes, and an open black mouth with five gray teeth. He is a gray head, sort of skeletal looking. There's a beautiful galaxy print fabric in the background. Here's another lovely photo of Gusss where he's resting on my palm. Why does he seem upset at me right now? An Abyssinian roller that is also a little book. It begins: “Why is a roller like a writing desk? The need for fire and acacia, both. One for blood - the other, ink.” Written in India ink. - #SciArtSeptember Day 30: Carbon
A painted, cut-out paper bird in the shape of an Abyssinian roller. The bird has one wing folded back, which reveals a small booklet of pages under the wing. The underwing is brown and has uneven letters painted on it in another shade of brown reading, “Some small words about the medium of carbon.” The booklet pages are bright blue, like the bird, and the words inside are unclear. The bird rests on a wooden table top.A painted, cut-out paper bird in the shape of an Abyssinian roller. The bird appears to be in flight, with the wings positioned in a downward flap. Such a bad take, JCO. All books count! Also, “machine-made” clothes are still very much made by humans. Fast fashion workers are paid a pittance for skilled labour. Even JCO’s metaphor here is flawed.

They quoted me in this New Yorker piece about AI today. www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...
“Let’s say there’s a world or time line I exist in where A.I. has been subject to regulation. It is ethical. It has no footprint environmentally,” the novelist Jeff VanderMeer, a prominent critic of A.I., told me over the phone. “With those guardrails in place, would I read an A.I. book? All I can say is no. And the reason is, in part, because I want to read something coming from a particular mind.” Using A.I., he said, “feels like a betrayal of the whole point of why you’re a writer.”

Titania Moonrock and Bazletazle the Mighty Teeny are currently available at my shop. I designed and hand-sewed them, and I hand-embroidered all their stars and planets. Titania is a relaxed sort of cosmic entity. She meditates and goes with the flow of the universe. jeremycreature.bigcartel.com
Here's a lovely photo of Titania and Bazletazle. Titania is a fabric art black cosmic spirit with a gray moon face, twinkly black eyes, and a little frown. Her body is covered with embroidered stars of various sizes and colors. I also embroidered a couple planets. One is yellow and one is purple with a red ring. She has black twirly head wispy embroidered with a line of white stars on each one. Bazletazle is a tiny black celestial spirit with a gray moon face and four black bulbous eyes. He's covered with stars of various colors. The background of the pic is green fur.

Two books side by side. Napier's Bones, on the left, has a disembodied hand with numbers on it over an old city map of what is probably Edmonton (where some of the books takes place). Over the Darkened Landscape, on the right, has an odd-looking character whose head is embedded in a painter's canvas with tree's growing from it, and he is holding a small dog.

When I briefly met Harlan Ellison a million years ago, he was signing books in a university bookstore. I asked him what he was going to do that night. “Sit in my hotel room and stare at the wall,” he said.
"Wasting time" might be one of the strangest accusations we've ever invented. Apparently you can waste 2:00 p.m. by sitting under a tree doing nothing. The afternoon was going to pass either way. The Earth was going to rotate either way. But because you didn't convert those hours into money, errands or improvement, we decided the time itself was wasted. As if simply being alive isn't enough to justify an afternoon.

My photo shows a silver shell-shaped container with an eight-armed octopus in relief at the centre of the lid. The arms of the octopus curl outwards across the ridges of the shell’s surface. This ornate shell container has a hinged lid and may once have been a cosmetic container . It is displayed on a clear stand in a museum case. Dimensions: 13.3 × 13.2 × 3 cm. It is part of the Silver Treasure from Paternò, Sicily, a hoard discovered in 1909, consisting of tableware and toiletries. Dated 4th-3rd century BC.

Tweed is such a beautiful fabric to wear this time of year because it produces, in Dolly Parton's phrasing, a coat of many colors. Even a solid-colored brown is not just brown, but bits of red, blue, and yellow to produce something that looks lifted off the Scottish landscape.
There are two photos taped together. The top shows a brown stone building with a brown thatched roof. It's surrounded by green grass, stone walkways, and blue-gray sea. Below is a checked brown tweed that reflects the colors in the landscape above it. There are two photos taped together. The one at te top shows a rocky hillside with green and straw-colored grass, gray rocks, and a tan sandy beach below. The blue waters are crashing at the shore. Below is a green herringbone tweed that reflects the colors in the landscape above it. There are two photos taped together. The top shows a field of green and straw colored fields with bits of purple flowers. Below is a a series of checked brown tweed that reflect the colors in the landscape above it.
