Distractedly washing my hand in the dark while looking at my phone and then I happen to glance up and right under the hot water faucet handle is a huge wolf spider, frozen. And I definitely went "Waah!" but then the spider sort of trotted along out of the sink, not toward me, with a fungus gnat.

Regardless, if you go into this thinking that content notes are about giving your audience a chance to consent to engage with certain topics, it's a lot easier than thinking you have to warn them for potential triggers or whatever. Because the list of possible triggers in the world is endless.

Honestly, my view is that all kids should be told about personal boundaries and consent, from casual touch to invasive predatory contact and just TOO CLOSE TOO MUCH. And timing. The brains in my family don't automatically register that some times are bad for hugs, and most people want short ones.

Learning about consent also helps as an autistic-spectrum afab. If I'd only had popular media, I would NOT have learned that I could establish boundaries or say no as a femme-type person. And learning platonic personal boundaries was difficult too. That also tends to be inferred rather than taught.

Explaining to non-Autistic people that actually I'm not being ableist when I suggest that Autistic boys (and kids in general) maybe do need to be explicitly told about how consent works even though apparently all the other boys understand consent without being told.

Canada too. We focus on how the holocaust impacted Jewish folks (and a bit on Roma, LGTBQ+) but not so much on disabled people because might be a bit awkward to teach that we were the heroes of WW2 while say, the Alberta Eugenics Board continued to operate until the 70s.

A 1911 Carnegie Institute report explored eighteen methods for removing defective genetic attributes; the eighth method was euthanasia. Though the most commonly suggested method of euthanasia was to set up local gas chambers, many in the eugenics movement did not believe that Americans were ready to implement a large-scale euthanasia program, so many doctors came up with alternative ways of subtly implementing eugenic euthanasia in various medical institutions. For example, a mental institution in Lincoln, Illinois fed its incoming patients milk infected with tuberculosis (reasoning that genetically fit individuals would be resistant), resulting in 30–40% annual death rates. Other doctors practiced euthanasia through various forms of lethal neglect.
