Vital fact highlighted by new @resolutionfoundation.org research into PIP: You hear a lot about people getting disability benefits because of depression, anxiety, ADHD etc. But most claimants have multiple conditions & almost no one gets benefits just for 1 of those types of conditions:

LGBT+ Liberal Democrats 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ @pluslibdems.bsky.social · 15/10/2026
Today's announcement from NHS England was as bad as we expected. It is cruel and unworkable, and is phrased such that it is likely cost the NHS a vast amount of money as it is subjected to even more gender-critical lawfare. Trans+ people, and the NHS, deserve better than this.
NHS England’s recent guidance on accommodating trans & non-binary people in NHS facilities is wrong and will only further harm trans+ people and their trust in NHS services.

The impact of this is yet to be fully understood, but we do not see how this policy is workable or how it will prevent trans people facing humiliation and a lack of dignity when accessing NHS services.

This situation only further shows why the Liberal Democrats are right to call for post-legislative scrutiny of the Equality Act 2010. It clearly is not protecting trans+ people and in this case is being used as a vehicle to actively harm trans+ people.

Trans people, from schools as young children to the hospices they die in will now suffer indignity and discrimination at every term thanks to Labour. Going swimming, clothes shopping, to local organisations, to work, when they’ve been assaulted - all off limits for many people now

From repealing Section 28 in 2003 to banning trans people from healthcare in 2026. This is not the party we should be. This will bring us shame and opprobrium, and rightly so. We have lost the trust of not just the trans community, but the LGBT+ community as a whole.

I have never seen coverage of a live trial, one involving allegations of multiple sex attacks on multiple women, framed in a more distasteful way. It's not 'Fame under fire' it's a rape trial. And it involves actual women. And this from the *checks notes* BBC
BBC screengrab from within their Russell Brand trial coverage. Image of Brand in 70s-style aviator glasses, with earpods in, blank expression. Long dark wavy hair, black and grey beard, dark unbuttoned shirt. All on a fire red/orange and black background
BBC logo top and centre, underneath a subdeck reading: Fame Under Fire. Then the headline 'Russell Brand On Trial'.
The words 'fire'and 'trial' are coloured to look like they are glowing orange at the bottom

I swore my oath on a Tanakh, and while Parliament has got a pretty wide range of available options (I'd love to know why the Zohar is one of them?) you can also request any other holy book, bring your own, or indeed not swear an oath on anything at all and make an affirmation instead. All counts 🤷‍♀️

The following holy books are available to

Old Testament; the Koran; the Sundar Gutka;
the Welsh Bible; the Gaelic Bible; the Old and

In all things I yearn for the past. Modern fashions seem to keep on growing more and more debased. I find that even among the splendid pieces of furniture built by our master cabinetmakers, those in the old forms are the most pleasing.
And as for writing letters, surviving scraps from the past reveal how superb the phrasing used to be. The ordinary spoken language has also steadily coarsened. People used to say "raise the carriage shafts" or "trim the lamp wick," but people today say "raise it" or "trim it." When they should say, "Let the men of the palace staff? stand forth!" they say,
"Torches! Let's have some light!" & Instead of calling the place where the lectures on the Sutra of the Golden Light* are delivered before the emperor "the Hall of the Imperial Lecture," they shorten it to "the Lecture Hall," a deplorable corruption, an old gentleman complained.
1. This is apparently a reference to Genji Monogatari; it might therefore be better to translate kano ki no michi no takumi as "that [well-known] master cabinetmaker."
2. Tonomoryo is translated by R. K. Reischauer as "Bureau of Palace Equipment and Upkeep."
3. Kenkô contrasts the old, oblique command and the present, direct one.
4. The full title of the sutra in Japanese is Konkömy Saishoö-kyo (Sutra of the excellent golden light). It was the most influential Buddhist text in eighth-century Japan, and in Kenkö's day lectures on it were delivered at the palace in the fifth month every year.

Justin Webb put this kind of point to me. But this simply conflates + confuses concerns about too little integration with a backlash against ethnic diversity (integration!) reaching the top of public life.
In an interview about Sunak’s article, Today programme presenter Justin Webb asked me if the argument was really about how “too many people who have come to this country who do not have British values and lead separate lives”.

That confuses two quite distinct integration debates. It takes a feat of mental gymnastics to see objections to Sunak, London mayor Sadiq Khan or Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch holding leadership roles as reflecting concerns about too little ethnic minority integration, rather than a backlash against too much.
