We teach young girls to cover their drinks. Walk with their keys between their knuckles. Dress modestly. Have a buddy system. Yell “fire”. By the time we’re adults we have a novel length list of rules to follow to avoid being raped. Many of us are raped anyways. That’s why we’re enraged.

I really do think it would be ok if men worried about rape accusations the way that women have to worry about rape

#peachtober26 day 2: chimney 🌃 I’m so proud of this image! I truly love looking at it, it’s so soothing. Synthesis is one of the things I want to work on this month, and this is the result of it, my first sketched out idea was super complicated and clunky. #illustration #art #digitalart
Digital illustration of a tiny house with a towering chimney at nighttime. The chimney is backdropped by a huge full moon, and the silhouette of a bird sleeping perched on the chimney can be seen contrasting with the white of the moon. A cat is also sleeping on the roof of the house.

I'm part of an amazing team looking at what autistic children want from their speech and language therapy. Nobody has asked them before! We're currently using some brilliant materials, developed with and by autistic people, to make interviews accessible to all children, not just those who speak
What we want: how can Speech & Language Therapy best meet the needs of autistic children?

We are looking for autistic children (9 – 15 years 11 months old) to take part in an adapted interview about their priorities and preferences in Speech & Language Therapy.

We hope our findings will support the development of services in this area.

We are looking for children who can express a choice on these matters, using a total communication approach. They should have a formal autism diagnosis which follows national clinical guidance on best practice.

If want to ask any questions about eligibility or to find out more generally, please contact us: NDSpeech-LanguageTherapy@manchester.ac.uk

Our team includes experienced & DBS checked autistic researchers & Speech & Language Therapists. Our interviews will be adapted to meet your child’s needs.

Funded by: National Institute for Health Care and Research (NIHR)
Sponsored and conducted by: Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust

Conducted with collaborators: The University of Manchester, The University of Sheffield

Yes it could be argued that keeping up with world events is important but alternatively can I interest you in hugging an ancient mossy boulder that looks like a face and quietly listening while it tells you stories from centuries cloaked in mist.
A lovely mossy boulder with a face. I walked past this venerable stone gentleman on Dartmoor when I was beginning to write my first novel, Villager, and it whispered all 104,000 words of the book to me. So now I have to pay it all of my royalties. Unfortunately my ex-publisher stopped paying me royalties last year. Understandable, the boulder was not happy. But now I have a new publisher and the book has been republished. So remember if you purchase a copy you will be helping a boulder to eat, pay the rent on his riverside moss garden, and feed his boulder family.

This has always annoyed me as someone who loved the books growing up. But the older I get the more messed up the idea of having become an adult in Narnia and then going home after at least a decade of being a ruler of a kingdom and being a 6 year old little girl again.

Look at this cool lizard I saw today!
A photo of a bungarra (I think) walking away from me on some loose scree. The head is turned slightly towards the camera but only as something that has been noticed, not something that it needs to worry about.

100%. For those unfamiliar, Van Halen had a line in their rider that essentially said “no brown M&Ms.” It was a way to see if the promoter had actually read the contract. They had a shitload of gear to tour with, so if they’re skipping one thing, it’s guaranteed they’re skipping something essential.

An AI flyer is a brown M&M test. If your event or business is cutting corners by using an AI flyer, where else are you cutting corners? What else are you cheating out on? Why should I be bothered to go somewhere you couldn't be bothered to promote with a little of your own personality?

Hey #aussky if you have any interest in native bees you can help out a very cool phd project!
A blue flyer with photos of bees and the following text
• PLEASE HELP US FIND •
GROUND-NESTING NATIVE BEES
We're studying native Lipotriches (Austronomia) bees
Western Sydney University researchers have begun a new project to learn more about the native ground-nesting bee Lipotriches muscosa and its close relatives like Lipotriches australica. In her Masters project, Kavya Chaithram Sini studied a large aggregation of these bees in Richmond NSW and found that multiple females use a single nest entrance. She also found they are generalist foragers, but with a particular fondness for Solanum flowers, which they sonicate to release pollen

What next? A 3-Year PhD project
Kavya has just started her PhD with the aim of further exploring the exciting biology of these wild bees and assessing whether they may also be useful in crop pollination. Through this work, we aim to better understand the bees' life cycles, social behaviour and nest architecture, while also developing techniques for artificial rearing and portable nesting systems that could support the management and propagation of these ground-nesting native bees
How can you help? Find some bees!
We need your help to find nesting aggregations of these bees, and especially within the Greater Sydney Region. Please do get in touch with us if you can help us locate nesting sites or are interested in further information on the project.

Just as a reminder, genAI images and videos aren't bad because they look bad. How close they get to the real thing is irrelevant. The reason they're bad is because ultimately genAI exists to put the creative process itself into the hands of corporations instead of actual creatives.

A couple of days ago, Australia post started a promo with HBO for the Harry Potter TV series. It you noticed the app logo changed to incorporate an owl, that's why. A bunch of people sent in complaints about the association with that revolting TERF JK Rowling. Today they replied. Partnership ended!
Screenshot of an email from AusPost replying to my complaint sent in yesterday. It reads:

Thank you for contacting Australia Post.

Australia Post is an inclusive organisation that values diversity and is committed to fostering a respectful and welcoming environment for all people, including LGBTQIA+ communities.

The Harry Potter Owl Post Experience was a promotional fan event delivered in partnership with HBO Max to celebrate letter writing and provide an engaging experience for Harry Potter fans.

We apologise if the activation has left you disappointed. We understand your concerns and your feedback has been heard and shared with the relevant teams. As a result, the partnership has now ended. Your feedback will also inform how we think about future partnerships and activations.

I highlighted "As a result" and added exclamation marks after the following sentence.
