Designer sends a proof, talks about the logo color and a monkey. I respond that the logo doesn’t pop from the background enough. Look again at the cover trying to find the monkey. Re-read the message. Yes, monkeying around with the colors of the logo could fix my problem. Get more coffee.

Post Civil War and particularly post Reconstruction the right of Black people and especially Black men to use violence was once again rapidly suppressed in a way we still see today, in the way cops will murder a Black man for holding a cell phone but talk a white man down.

How many 50-year-old roofers there are? Zero. One reason unions fight for high wages is because careers are SHORT.

Hot take: I don't think social media made people dumber. We've been dumb this whole time. It's just that you used to have to have a job that people sent their dumb letters to, to notice. This made "Engaging with fools" an occupational hazard rather than the 24/7 experience it is presently.

1) STYLE IS A SKILL YOU BUILD, NOT AN INNATE QUALITY. Every girl, cis and trans, who is good at styling had to learn and experiment. You may be getting a late start, but you are not at some genetic disadvantage. You learn by trying and doing. No one emerges from HRT, or the womb, fully fashionable.

There is a moment at the very very end of Abdul El-Sayed's podcast with Ezra Klein (book recommendation section) where he talks about the idea of "speaking truth to pain" and this will be staying with me for an extremely long time. www.nytimes.com/2026/09/25/o...
But there’s also something about truth to pain. We talk a lot about truth to power, but I think it’s actually a lot harder to speak truth to pain. I say that as someone who went to medical school, realizing that in a lot of our politics right now, we’ve got to get a lot better at speaking truth to pain if we’re going to get through some of these challenges that we have.

What does “truth to pain” mean?

It’s one thing to look power in the eye and say: You’re wrong about this. But there’s a way in which pain is very difficult to reason with. Because when somebody is in their pain, they’re in their trauma. They see that pain, and they may not see what’s causing it.

I remember just very explicitly being in a trauma ward with a gunshot wound patient and watching this big guy with his hand on his gunshot wound. All the folks are trying to pull his hand off his pain, that point of his gunshot wound, this clear vulnerability.

And this emergency room doctor had the presence of mind to be like: Everyone, stop. And she looks him in the eyes, and she’s like: I get that really hurts, and I’m so sorry that you’re here. You don’t want to be here. We don’t want you to be here. But if you don’t let us fix this, you could die. So I’m going to take your hand, and I’m going to move it off, OK? Because I need to get there so that you can live.

She was speaking truth to pain. He understands he’s at the hospital, he needs care, but he also doesn’t want anybody to touch the wound. Which is a natural thing. And I think it is a really great metaphor for how we think about a lot of these challenges we talked about today.

Didn't have to finish the first page, y'all, Brynne Weaver came through!
Screenshot of the first 3 paragraphs of Brynne Weaver's TOURIST SEASON. Typeset first line was all caps but I didn't replicate that here:

I'm sure nobody goes on vacation expecting to be dismembered and put through a woodchipper, but some tourists are just assholes and deserve their fate.

Like the guy in the Buoy and Beacon Pub last year who cornered Selma Dayton by the bathrooms. I was there. I heard her tell him no. When I came around the corner from the bar, he was trying to kiss her and slide a hand up her shirt. Piece of shit.

Woodchipper.

But We Mustn't Ruin HIS Life By me and @postcardsbybecky.bsky.social Read more cartoons! —> #Policartoon Support the cartoons! —>patreon.com/barry
Four-panel cartoon with a tiny kicker panel below.

PANEL 1. A Black delivery worker stands beside her van, holding a package. She looks downcast.

WOMAN: Everywhere I went I was terrified I’d run into **him**. I couldn’t sleep, couldn’t concentrate…
WOMAN: After I failed two classes I lost my scholarship.

PANEL 2. A girl in pink sits on a bicycle on a residential street, looking down.

GIRL: He sent the video to everyone in school. **Everyone**. I had to be homeschooled until I could get into a different school.

PANEL 3. A woman sits in an apartment armchair, holding a baby who pats her face. She looks sad.

WOMAN: It’s been ten years… My therapist says PTSD isn’t ever cured, but it’s something I can learn to manage.

PANEL 4. A hand holds a phone showing a male podcaster at a microphone.

MAN: Nobody feels worse than me about what happened — but we can’t ruin these young men’s lives!

KICKER. The podcaster speaks with Barry, the cartoonist.

BARRY: What sort of thing would “ruin their lives”?
MAN: Being expelled. Or being publicly criticized. Or made to switch dorms. Or to switch a class. Basically, anything he might notice.

in addition to this, if you see someone being sexist/racist/homophobic/etc and don't interfere, don't come over to the victim after and say "oh I thought about stepping in but didn't" or "hey i saw that, that was weird huh". don't put the victim in the position of having to make you feel better.
