I don't remember seeing an image of Earth before that captures the (thin, fragile, tiny layer of) atmosphere so clearly. I mean, look at that.
Zooming in on the photo of Earth taken by astronauts on Artemis II on their way to the Moon, you can clearly see the Aurora Borealis and thin layer of atmosphere wrapping around the planet.Zooming in on the photo of Earth taken by astronauts on Artemis II, you can clearly see the thin layer of atmosphere wrapping around the entire planet.

What if the library could fix your jacket? 🧵 YDL's first-ever Repair Clinic is happening this Thursday from 10-11:30am at our downtown branch, and it's free! Bring your worn clothing, ripped backpacks, and stubborn hems, and whatever's been sitting in your "I'll deal with this later" pile.
Screenshot of a Concentrate Media article headlined "Get household items repaired for free at Ypsi library's new 'repair clinic' events," published March 23, 2026. The article describes YDL's new pilot repair clinic program where residents can use library supplies and equipment to repair household items for free. Below the headline, a photo shows YDL Librarian Aaron Smith and Youth Librarian Stephanie Pocsi-Morrison smiling at a table displaying two sewing machines, a blue grommet punch press, grommets, rivets, and sewing supplies inside YDL's downtown branch. The photo caption reads: "Ypsilanti District Library (YDL) Librarian Aaron Smith and Youth Librarian Stephanie Pocsi-Morrison with some of the equipment available through YDL's Library of Things, which will be used during YDL's upcoming repair clinics. Thinking of a few Malcolm x speeches as they tell people getting kidnapped in the streets by masked thugs to ‘remain calm’
If a man speaks the language of brute force, you can't come to him with peace. Why, good night! He'll break you in two, as he has been doing all along. If a man speaks French, you can't speak to him in German. If he speaks Swahili, you can't communicate with him in Chinese. You have to find out what this man speaks. And once you know his language, learn how to speak his language, and he'll get the point. There'll be some dialogue.
You know the language the Klan speaks.
It is a duty, it's your and my duty as human beings, it is our duty to our people, to organise ourselves and let the government know that if they don't stop that Klan, we'll stop it ourselves.
So I don't believe in violence - that's why I want to stop it.
And you can't stop it with love. So, we only mean vigorous action in self-defence and that vigorous action we feel we're justified in initiating by any means
necessary. The press call us racist and people who are
"violent in reverse." This is how they psycho you. They make you think that if you try to stop the Klan from lynching you, you're practising "violence in reverse."

The @annarborobserver.bsky.social newsletter had a decent summary of the dynamic at the #a2council Transportation Commission meeting last week (mailchi.mp/aaobserver/a... ). But we need to take some time to talk in detail about why the city's presentation was so damaging and damning... (🧵)
1. City traffic-deaths pitch hits a wall: Ann Arbor promised in 2021 it would eliminate serious injuries and deaths from traffic accidents by the end of 2025, aka next month, and instead the number of incidents so far this year has hit an eleven-year high. On November 19, Transportation Commission members eagerly awaited a year-end report and some promised new ideas, but transportation engineer Cynthia Redinger failed to impress. Her two big “asks” were for the commission’s support in a budget request to council for a driver-education campaign and to push for legal permission to set up red-light cameras and other “automated enforcement” techniques. Crashes In Ann Arbor author and safety advocate Peter Houk was especially dismayed, telling Redinger, “We have been trying unsuccessfully for a very long time to change driver behavior through driver education and messaging, and what we need to do is change our facilities to encourage drivers to interact in them the way we want them to. … We’re not going to get there by asking them nicely.” Council member Dharma Akmon tells a2view she’s also disappointed; she’s been pushing for quick-build traffic-slowing fixes like the recent redesign of Pauline Ave. Persuading Lansing lawmakers to reverse the current ban on automated enforcement — if it were likely to succeed, which she doubts — is not a fast-moving solution, she says. Watch the key part of the meeting here (https://youtu.be/PLdne7vIK9g?si=D9vQnt4ZupWdYkIA&t=7473)

Purdue to the rescue of IU student newspaper, whose institution was attempting censorship. Details in alt!
Sara Whitmer

I'm sure many of you have heard by now that earlier this week, IU k*lled the print edition of its student paper, the IDS. The issue that was supposed to print this week contained criticism of the Whitten regime and IUs further slide into scist control, and they couldn't allow that to happen during Homecoming, when all the rich alumni are in town.
Enter Purdue! The Purdue student paper, The Exponent, owns its own presses. Yesterday, in an act of tremendous solidarity with their biggest rival school, they printed the forbidden issue of the IDS. They then drove it to Bloomington overnight and stocked all of the IDS boxes on campus, just in time for Homecoming.
Solidarity is what makes us stronger, and solidarity will be what ultimately allows us to triumph, if we can ever truly get it together. I hope everyone has a fun, safe day if they're going out today, and I hope we can think about what acts of solidarity we can begin taking to really make this movement MOVE - beyond a permitted expression of upset into more active resistance.

I mean, go read the whole thing, but this part in particular hit me like a sack of bricks
Excerpt: "In the horror movie trope, the child draws an entity only they can see. The drawing is scary to us because it implies something unseen. But to the haunted child, the act may very well be soothing. It’s why the monster in the movie is at its scariest in Act I, before it discloses that it’s an actor in a costume, or that it was meticulously rendered on a computer. When things take on a shape, they can be understood."
