🎃 Halloween is my fave - I splurged for some house decorations for my parents' place and I love them! The kiddos across the street like them too 🥹🧡 Closer to the day, I have some purple solar ground lights to line the driveway. I also can't promise I won't make a ghost to hang from the tree. 👻
Image of the front of a house. Two ghosts are hanging in the picture window, all lit up with LED lights. Outside, the door light is purple and the bush below the window is covered in orange and purple lights.

Harsha Walia: If we are serious about dismantling patriarchy and rape culture, we would stop calling it Cornell 7. It's the Cornell 57. Passive bystanders are a pillar of misogyny. Men must actively intervene in shifting social norms & refuse to participate in rape *culture* Its the Cornell 57, not Cornell 7.

When the school children joined the circle to dance at today's Mawi'omi, I had to fight tears. Their giggles, skipping dances, and hand-holding was pure joy, and in that moment, the children who died and those who survived Residential school were achingly present too. Beautiful gathering 🧡

When Carney said Tr*mp's threat of "destroying Iran" is just "speaking the language of war", he dehumanized and dismissed the lives of 92 million Iranians. It is a deeply shameful take and Iranian citizens deserved a humane response. Why do threats of annihilation against Muslims get shrugs? 😰

It's so bizarre trying to talk to someone with zero self awareness and zero sense of accountability for their shitty, harmful choices / words. It's like being Alice in Wonderland - it makes no sense. But I must remember, buddy likely revels in being shitty and has built some weird identity from it.

This will silence and effectively disappear many BIPOC folks, 2SLGBTQ+ folks, Disabled folks, and other folks who are marginalized. It will silence community builders, activists, people trying for positive change. Fighting systemic violence will always be deemed "toxic" by the System. @bsky.app

I could cry, seeing an actual health department finally say things like this. Borderline considering a tattoo.
MYTHS VS. FACTS
* MYTH
If masks work, I shouldn't have to wear one if you're wearing your own.
A FACT
Masks (especially high quality masks/respirators like N95s and KN95s) are an important way to protect yourself from COVID-19, but they are even more effective when others nearby are also masking! We protect the community the most when more people wear masks.

Anytime I see news stories about coyotes, I get so anxious. It reminds me of how wolves and sharks were demonized when I was a kid with disastrous results. I like education about how to keep pets / livestock safer, I just worry the nature of current narratives suggest the possibility of culls. 😰

The hatred the world has for Autistic people is truly unhinged. Repeatedly, people choose the risk of death over the risk of Autism for their kids and, apparently, even for their dogs. Being ND in an ND-hating world is exhausting and heartbreaking.

My take on the Americans wearing "Lake America" shirts in Halifax? I hope not a single Canadian gave them a second glance. I hope their glee at causing harm and offense failed utterly. None of us should give a shit about taunts from rando MAGA Americans. They're infantile, just take their money.

I meant to do so ages ago, ended up using commerical HEPAs over the last 6 years, but tonight I made my first Corsi–Rosenthal Box! My vet actually got me mobilized, she thinks it may help Bram's breathing challenges. It was really easy and not too much money. Apparently, they're quite powerful!

I got my 1st Stephen MacInnis: "Island Breeze"! Peer pressure to buy local art, if you can. At our highest and lowest moments, we always turn to art; it's so important as AI and big tech targets the artistic sector to steal and strip it for wealth, that we support artists as we can whenever we can.
