We know that mobility in cities is about space. More specifically, more trips in less space. We’ve seen lots of great images reinforcing that point. This one might be my favourite, from #Santiago, because it ALSO shows the inequality of having buses run in mixed traffic. Dedicated bus-only lanes.
Side-by-side comparison of a Santiago Street, on the left with vehicles, and on the right with the people they carry, showing how much space single occupancy cars take up on our streets in cities. Noteworthy is a cluster of people in the middle where the full bus is sitting stuck in traffic among all those cars with just one person each in them.

Authorities increasingly view school streets as a tool for creating a safer, greener, more child-friendly Budapest. For now, their first offers a glimpse of how even a small amount of reclaimed space improves daily life—not just for kids, but for teens who lack welcoming public places of their own.🔚

In Budapest’s Józsefváros district, marking a significant milestone as the city’s first fully car-free school street, a stretch once lined with parked cars has been reclaimed outside the ELTE Trefort Ágoston Secondary School as a safe and social space for students, families and the local community.🧵

Ditto, criminology / crime prevention scholars. In the UK - while in the midst of a huge prison crisis - motoring offences represent 60% of sentences, and there are roughly as many cases on causing death due to illegal driving as there are murders. Yet not many seem to care about these.

Are head injuries to cyclists an important cause of death in road travel fatalities? Conclusion
Answering the question ‘How important are head injuries in cyclists as a cause of road travel death?’ depends on the metric used for assessing importance. Pedestrians and drivers account for five and four times the number of fatal head injuries as cyclists. The fatal head injury rate is highest for cyclists by time travelled and for pedestrians using distance travelled.
