In February 1972, 20 students from Glasgow School of Art greeted Gordon Campbell, the Scottish Secretary of State, as he opened the Charing Cross section of the M8. They waved banners that are as relevant now as they were then as Campbell passed beneath in the Lord Provost's car. 📷 Newqsquest

The Fairford Suspects sounds like an early seventies folk-rock outfit who are heavily influenced by late 60s British psychedelia, East Anglian folk music and the writings of Tolkien. I can only assume they’ve been allowed on bail in order to finish their concept album about Highwaymen in Suffolk.

I do find this country mad. Anyone can see that social care is in a state of devastating crisis in this country and that it is the key source of the NHS crisis as well. There is no feasible way to solve it without everyone contributing. Burnham is honest about that and is already getting pelters.

I have to admit I was, until yesterday, finding the new Beck album a bit underwhelming & was questioning the enthusiasm that it was being received by critics and peers. However, as I walked up the Hell of Shaftesbury Avenue yesterday evening, the beauty of it just hit me. What a gorgeous & sad LP.

I'd never seen this Roy Lichtenstein painting before, but it's incredible how he manages unfailingly to make his copies worse than the original comics he's ripping off.
A drab pop art painting of a sinister man driving a car, watching a stoic blonde in leopard print fur. The proportions of the guy's face are offThe original image, from Girls' Romances 78 by Tony Abruzzo. The guy has a more sinister leer, while the woman has heavier mascara and feels both sadder and more determined. A caption reads "I vowed to myself I would NOT miss my appointment -- that I would NOT go riding with him--yet before I knew it..."

between 15,000 and 20,000 jobs in UK universities are actively at risk of being cut, on top of the tens of thousands already lost. 50% of UK universities are actively cutting staff. Solidarity with anyone losing their job at the altar of corporate greed, but "some jobs are real jobs" indeed.

I think it's absolutely mad that today there's a *national news story* about 400 oil platform workers losing their jobs, and the government being blamed. 25% of the UK TV industry lost their jobs in the last 4 years and we never hear a peep about it! Some jobs are 'real jobs' I guess.
