You know the world's in a fucked up state when Laibach are making more or less unambiguous & unironic political statements, but at least they had the decency to do it while releasing an album of Eurovision-friendly pop bangers, & putting on an incredible show. What an absurd, brilliant, vital band

A wrestler I trained under who shall not be named, on seeing something like this, would have said, "you just invented a great new finish, but let's try that again".

Slightly morbidly, the first part of the line is "I could've popped me clogs", but the follow-up "but I diiiiiiidn't" is 100% Lenny Biscuits.

perhaps the worst part of this is that the show is pre-taped, so not only will they be counter-programming a tribute show, but if it's presented "as live" then they risk presenting friends and former colleagues of PAC as either complicit or uncaring. It needs, at the very least, a full disclaimer.

walked past the Chandos yesterday and was grotesquely tempted by the idea of Andy Burnham's London Pub Crawl. Reminder - that's a Sam Smith's pub crammed with tourists, a Wetherspoon's that's been closed since 2022, and one decent pub in South London.

In this thread, Monbiot explains how political decisions are made for reasons of power and interest, but then justified with pretextual arguments about logic and morality. The reason I cannot deal with most political coverage is that it takes the latter arguments seriously and ignores the real story

I wish I could remember the show and the specific context, but I cracked up earlier remembering the time PAC slipped an Athletico Mince reference into an AEW promo segment. Just gloriously niche work to pop a handful of people, but still made it work in a heel promo.

I think about this a lot, and the grief this young company has had to go through. I think about Bryce and Eddie Kingston, who I grew to love as humans after Larry Sweeney's death, and how grossly unfair it is that such good souls should have to go through this so often. I think about Excalibur...

PAC was *incredibly* funny, and the reason that stuff like this and the Orange Cassidy matches worked isn't just because he was an all-time great straight man, but because he had the confidence in his own ability and credibility to know exactly how far he could take "funny" without becoming a joke.

Just in shock about PAC. To have been just watching him yesterday and singing his praises, as I do every single time I see him, then to wake up to such horrible news. I only met him once, but honestly what stood out above all else was how quiet, humble, and kind he was. No one had a bad word.

Okada vs Ospreay is massive, but it's *another* champion vs champion match, with Andrade coming up as a future challenger to Will too. I don't think jobbing out all your other singles champions to the World Champion is a very productive way to create a hierarchy of prestige.

Every fandom - every single one - is toxic as fuck because they're all basically ad hoc, anarchist collectives that police themselves and have no established societal norms. They're a microcism of what you get when you put loads of humans in a community without any particular goal in mind.

I used to write for a kids tv show and we had a binman character who’d look through a celeb’s trash and you’d guess who it was (for example medals, running shoes = Usain Bolt) and we got through so many layers of compliance before being told he just couldn’t be called Gary Litter

There is no purer art form than NWOBHM songs where the song title is the same as the artist name. Bonus points to Angel Witch for hitting the trifecta with the album title too. Witchfinder General by Witchfinder General rules, though. It sounds like they tried to rip off every Sabbath song at once.

Went to the RA Richard Dadd exhibition - The Fairy Feller's Masterstroke is such a staggering, overwhelming piece of work; so much so that I was shocked to discover how small it was, given the amount of intense detail. I neglected to buy a print, because if I saw it every day I would Go Wrong.

Vampiro was so fucked up at the time. Hips, knees, back, neck. All a mess. Clearly overweight, too, due to not being able to work out. It was such a great match, too. Smoke and mirrors and playing to the strengths of the babyface. It was a work of art.

"little bit of crime, yeah". The New Level/Swerve dynamic is great fun. When it was first rumoured they would be together, I was dreading that it meant a post-WWE New Day would want to be all super-serious, but them being self-aware & goofy and bringing Swerve into it has worked out so much better.

Well, if it’s 23 September... YES, THAT’S RIGHT! It’s the 72nd anniversary of the hunt for the Gorbals Vampire, in which hundreds of children aged from four to 14, armed with dogs, knives, and sharpened sticks went looking for an urban myth
Daily Mirror front page shows grainy image of horde of children in a cemetery, and the headline “Amazing scene as hundreds of children rush cemetery”

deputy head was a big fucker, terrifying ex-rugby player with the hair and beard of Gerry Adams. He once opened an assembly, without explanation or introduction, with a solo performance of the opening scene of Terry Pratchett's Wyrd Sisters, playing all three witches with big camp panto dame voices.

This is the headline the BBC chose to best illustrate acts of attempted murder, terrorism, and attacks on an emergency service by an organised mob of fascist thugs. The media is completely captured, and yet cunts will still have the audacity to claim the BBC has a "left-wing bias".

"Write what you know" is useful as far as reflecting emotional honesty, but beyond that it's nonsense. It *can't* mean only write from personal experience, because that eliminates 99% of fiction. And like Gail says, if you don't know it, learn it. Then write it. Above all, write what you *feel*.

I find most writing guides fall somewhere between tedious, obvious, and empty platitudes, but then I read Ursula Le Guin saying, "there's one best way for the parts of a sentence to fit together, and your job as a writer is to find it" and I can actively feel my brain being rewired for the better.
