To expand on this: Bigotry isn't a result of an innocent misunderstanding, or not having all the facts. It's not a choice made rationally, defeated with a rational argument. Bigotry is a self-protective, foundational belief used to help make the world make sense to them. Debate won't change that.

We are now, without a doubt, the greatest kleptocracy the world has ever known. By virtue of Donald Trump and the Republican Party promising to hate and abuse those people a nation of angry rubes wants to hate and abuse, they have lifted the national wallet and handed it back to the rubes, empty.

look, you can't just punish trump when dems are in power. that might make republicans do something crazy, like stage a coup, illegally shred the federal bureaucracy, or even vstart abducting people off the street and extraditing them to torture sites all over the world

I know it goes without saying but as the right wing media-political complex runs from Trump we should remember that they played a leading role in--and gleefully profited from--enabling and promoting him. Accomplices trying to get off a sinking ship, trying to salvage what's left of their reputation

With the midterm elections shaping up to be a massive reckoning for the Republican Party, it's worth remembering that they had a fairly easy offramp from Trumpism in the immediate aftermath of the January 6th riot but they completely chickened out.

It’s very simple. A reality TV host became dictator because he turned down a role for Sharknado 4 and that’s why the king of outer space, who cheats at Diablo, got to kill Africa. Now the economy is controlled by a sex cult that has something to do with Harry Potter fanfic because of robots.

Once you notice this, it's the most obvious double standard in the political press. Democrats have to answer for the smallest voice even if it has no actual tie to them, but Republicans never have to answer for the insanely racist billionaire donor driving their entire party.

I mean, he's not wrong. Biden left them reasonable inflation, relatively low unemployment, gas prices that didn't make baby Jesus cry, minimal ongoing military quagmires, some degree of respect for CONUS and the Rule of Law, etc. And Trump is "still dealing" with those things.

Our political press buys into Trump as the personification of what George Lakoff calls “strict-father” morality. I’m not saying that’s their morality. I’m saying they respect it, even more than their own, sometimes. www.thefarce.org/why-the-pres...
Imagine for a second if a Democrat were president. If a Democratic administration stranded thousands of troops in a combat zone for nearly a year without hot water, functional plumbing, or basic supplies, cable news would run a 24/7 countdown clock titled DISRESPECTING OUR TROOPS ALERT, with endless panel participants screaming at the nodding token Democrat about 'executive incompetence,' 'cruelty to service members,' and 'a #BENGHAZI every day!'

But because it’s Trump, the press treats actual, material harm to active-duty military as a minor administrative hiccup rather than a major national scandal. Why?

For the same reason, our media has had difficulty treating Trump’s endless declarations of 'victory,' timed usually to juke the stock market, as what they truly are: an endless stream of humiliations.

Our political press buys into Trump as the personification of what George Lakoff calls “strict-father” morality. I’m not saying that’s their morality. I’m saying they respect it, even more than their own, sometimes.

Because a strict-father figure can never admit defeat, the press becomes incapable of acknowledging it, too. Cable news ends up framing every retreat as a feat of tactical genius, terrified of triggering the regime’s legal or regulatory wrath.
