Is it accurate to say that the Big Beautiful Bill on average made the poorest people in America even poorer and the richest people in America even richer, when looking at total household resources? One word answer only, please.

Yes

GAO, the agency tasked under the Impoundment Control Act with adjudicating impoundments, says as explicitly as possible the Donald Trump and Russ Vought’s pocket rescission is illegal. “The President may not force the expiration of budget authority Congress has already enacted and did not rescind.”

I think something to consider here is that Collins voted to confirm Russ Vought as OMB Director despite the fact that he said a billion times that he thought Trump had a constitutional right to illegally impound funds, and now she’s doing shocked Pikachu reactions.

Without warning or consultation, Congress just received an $810 million package of pocket rescissions from the Administration. This is the most recent attempt by this Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to undermine Congress's Constitutional power of the purse.
This move shows that OMB intentionally withheld these funds for months to execute this unlawful cancellation of appropriations that were approved on a bipartisan basis and signed into law.Not only is the delay itself an impoundment that was not reported to Congress, but also it is a usurpation of Congress's appropriations powers.
OMB is an agency of the executive branch. It does not get to decide which programs are worth funding.
The independent Government Accountability Office has concluded that pocket rescissions are unlawful and not permitted by the Impoundment Control Act. Any effort to rescind appropriated funds without congressional approval is a clear violation of the law.
I will work with my colleagues to address these illegal actions.

Russ Vought just sent a rescissions request to Congress, signaling he intends to illegally impound funds. The $810 million highlighted in this “request” (but this is a pretext to just illegally impound the funds) is not the exhaustive list of many billions of dollars he’s impounding this year.

There are very few levers the president actually has, but of the few that exist Trump has pulled all the ones that directly harm people. Tariffs, Iran war, Medicaid and SNAP cuts — all things that make it harder for struggling families to get by. Higher prices, higher interest rates, less help.

Trump is really out there being like "if i can't get it, then no one gets it." A man child.
The Board of The Kennedy Center today agreed, almost unanimously, to close the Building for Safety reasons, and so that it can begin the process of Reconstruction. The closing will take place immediately, however, the Renovation and Reconstruction, which is a very large and complex job, cannot begin until such time as the D.C. Circuit rules on the Board’s approved name. If the ruling is a negative one, which it should not be, and is not overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court, the Reconstruction and the Renovation of The Kennedy Center will not take place. The attorneys from the DOJ will ask for an expedited appeal. In the meantime, 17 Million Dollars, raised by President Trump, has been put into The Kennedy Center account to keep it afloat. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP

Interest payments are already the highest as a percent of GDP they've ever been in all of US history, on track to keep growing, despite CBO assuming average rates never break 4.2% (see follow-up post). If rates stay elevated, it's a disaster for our long-term outlook.
Interest/gdp is set to grow from 3.2% today to 7.9% by 2056. if interest rates are instead 0.5% higher, it'll grow to 9.8%. if they're instead 1% higher, it'll grow to 12.1%.

First, no one was "overcharged." Second, Trump's decision to give surplus fees to only people who don't get subsidies means by definition he's giving money to the richest people on the exchanges *at the expense* of lowering premiums for the poor and working class next year. Bad policy choice.

Senate budget resolution is out. Passing it is a necessary step in doing a 3rd reconciliation bill. Similar to the House version ($73 bn for military, $12 bn for farmers, $10 bn for SAVE), but it gives more $$ to SAVE. It technically allows for $65 bn for SAVE, but I think they’re targeting $20 bn.
