I’ve been reminiscing with friends about Take Back the Night rallies we did at Cornell in the late 90s, and how now it’s our high school daughters planning rallies and signing petitions and it’s just incredibly demoralizing how little has changed.

Holy cow! Most international graduate students on F1 visas remain here for a few years on OPT to finish their work after graduating and end up staying in the US. This means students will just go back home. What a way to waste the ~ $1M investment that is the education of every PhD student.

Research suggests that the combination of incentives to publish and the use of large language models will lead to more papers, but they will be less refined.

We use #Bayesian optimisation to apply the proteus-framework.org interior-atmosphere evolution model. For three exoplanet prototypes, we retrieve the initial magma ocean conditions that evolve into what #JWST could observe. For terrestrials, we can efficiently estimate redox states and core sizes.

The Trump administration hates academic science funding, full stop. They hate where that money goes, and they hate who it goes to. They want to keep all that money for themselves, to hand out to favored cronies who can help them get elected and to steer yet more money and more power back into their hands.

That’s it. That’s the story
