The train moves. The man walks. The city trembles. In the rain, all fades.
Photo by Trace Hudson. A lone figure with an umbrella crosses a rain-slicked street, framed by blurred skyscrapers and the soft glow of a train labeled "Kimball" approaching on elevated tracks. The scene captures the quiet tension between urban speed and human stillness, with reflections shimmering on the wet pavement and diffused light painting the city in dreamy hues.

Today is the 134th anniversary of the beginning of the CTA Elevated Trains. On this day in 1892, the first "L" train ran from Pershing & State to Congress & Wabash. Chicago is the only city with elevated trains in its downtown area.

CAR T-cell therapy is amazing stuff. For patients with certain leukemias and relapsed/refractory B-cell lymphomas, it can put years on your life and life in your years. 3 year survival goes from: 10% in historical controls to 59% in CAR-T patients.

One side obsession from my research into the 1920s is the extensive network of ELECTRIC trains that used to connect cities and towns across the central Midwest called the Interurban. We had this more than a hundred years ago. The things we had and the things we lost.

a few of my favorite snowy owl shots from yesterday in Chicago #birds 🪶
two snowy owls sit together on a concrete pier with blue-green water behind them and the shoreline in the far blurry distance. the owls are facing and looking to the left with their yellow eyes just barely openthe same owls sit in the same position facing to the left, but the one on the left is looking backwards, making it appear it's gazing into the eyes of the owl on the right. the lefthand owl has more and darker black markings than the owl on the right.same owls facing left. the lefthand owl is looking towards the left again, but the righthand owl is crouched down a little and looking towards the camerasame owls, both with their eyes shut tightly. the owl on the left looks absolutely content, and the one on the right almost looks like it's smiling
