Also on sale on libro.fm! I really loved both of these, and I reread Magical Innkeeping via audiobook and liked the narrator quite a bit, so thrilled to get Irregular Witches, it’s been a couple years since I read it

My company, OgreAI, harvests the teeth of children in order to plant them and grow our army of ogres. Unfortunately, we are increasingly concerned that the ogres may break containment. The only solution is we need more children’s teeth to grow more ogres to prevent that from happening.

werner herzog on AI filmmaking (from here www.indiewire.com/features/int...)
Q: A couple years ago at IDFA, I saw this movie "About a Hero," which is this partly Al-generated hybrid documentary that tries to recreate the atmosphere of your films.

A: The intention of this young filmmaker was never to remake any [of my films], but making something in the spirit. And I immediately said, "You will fail. It is such a stupid idea. It's phenomenally, abysmally stupid. I will not take part in it." He wanted me to explain things and have my voice in it.
I said, "You are alone. There's such a thing as free speech, which I respect. So go ahead and fail." And it is a failure, period.
It's so standardized that Al can step in because there's not real storytelling. It's mimicry of something that has happened before. And I welcome Al to replace all the idiots who are into nothing but repeating, repeating, repeating until it's ad nauseam.
When it's ad nauseam, please, please, please let Al step in and do the job.

lol, this scene is when they are in the colorado mountains during a blizzard.
Julie had chosen another outfit from the closet that afternoon—a simple white silk shirt with wide, blousy sleeves and a pair of black wool crepe slacks with a pleated cummerbund waistband. When Zack had first seen the clothes lying on the bed, he'd been rather disappointed that she hadn't chosen something more special for herself. When he saw her in the outfit, however, with a narrow, hammered gold belt around her slender waist, a borrowed gold bracelet on her wrist, and the collar of her shirt turned up, he'd instantly changed her mind... Julie dressed with a casual chic that suited her perfectly

Next came a huge rolling loon puppet. The wings moved. I've included photos from the front and back because I think the puppetry here is part of what's interesting; the guy riding on the back controlled the wires for the wings. It's also a loon in the "loon rampant" pose.
A giant rolling puppet of a loon rising up from the water, wings spread. The loon puppet seen from behind. People are pushing it and someone is sitting behind it, controlling the wings with wires.
