New APC paper in Nature Comms First author Cristina Cuesta-Marti and colleagues examine how eating unhealthy foods early in life leaves lasting brain and feeding changes but bacteria can help restore healthy eating. www.nature.com/articles/s41... #Microbiome #GutBrainAxis Tagging collaborators ⬇️
An unhealthy diet disrupts feeding behavior and the gut microbiota, but
whether early-life dietary effects persist, or can be restored later in life,
remains unclear. We investigated whether microbiota-targeted interventions
(FOS + GOS or Bifidobacterium longum APC1472) could restore early-life highfat/
high-sugar (HFHS) diet-induced feeding alterations in adult female and
male mice.

Anatomy promotes neutral coexistence of strains in the human skin microbiome Take home: each pore is dominated by a single genotype due to neutral bottlenecking (priority effects) I absolutely love this paper. It's very clearly written and fun to use when teaching. 👏🧪 www.cell.com/cell-host-mi...
A graphical abstract depicting how authors sampled bacteria from pores across participant's faces, genotyped them, and then estimated how many lineages occupied each pore as well as relatedness among lineages. They demonstrate that each pore is dominated by a single genotype due to neutral bottlenecking (priority effects) and that pores contribute to population fragmentation, thereby reducing inter-lineage competition.
