The spoken aspirations of people, from the worker to the CEO, used to be, "retire early, travel, and leave something for the family." People earned money for how what they could do with it. Now the conversation is about the amount instead of it's function. A symptom of the problem.

Not shutting up about disability accessiblities became part of my brand at my last job. I was known as the guy with the reference resources to help when someone needed accomodations. I like to think there are several people that I helped actually keep their jobs without burning out.

Symptoms that would send you to the ER are just another Tuesday for those of us with chronic illness. I also guarantee whatever suggestion you have for us we've already looked into. Unless you live with chronic illness, you do not have the context to comprehend our day to day. Just believe us.

The longer I live, the more I think about it, the more I'm convinced that "profit" is a very evil word. If there is profit, either you failed to compensate the laborers or you overcharged the customers, probably both. If your business can't grow without exploitation then it shouldn't fucking grow.

It's the exploitation that's the problem, not the technology. There is tech whose foundation and/or purpose is exploitation, but most tech is created to help people. Then capitalism gets ahold of it and turns it into yet another way to exploit people, the earth, and whatever they can get away with.

Whistles really hurt, actually painful to experience. BUT I will endure that pain 1000 times if someone's life is saved by it even once. I know the pain isn't actually harming me other than stress response, and there are much greater things causing a stress response than a painful sound.

🧵 A story of Autistic medical trauma: Many studies talk about how Autistic people can have a hypo & hyper sensitivity to pain. This results in professionals blowing us off as either dramatic or "not in enough pain". Many of us want to stop seeking medical attention after a while because of it.

You could do a couple of things with this information. Assuming you don't have 60 publicly disclosed autistic employees, you can assume the org doesn't feel psychologically safe enough to disclose and start considering ways to change this from a grassroots level.

I was an athlete,l from the age of 4, a varsity starter on my school's soccer team when I was a freshman. Then I got sick. It wasn't lack of exercise that made me chronically ill.
