Elon Musk is the complete encapsulation of the libertarian philosophy. No identity documents, deregulated diarrhea, pedophile, never faces any consequences, massively racist, conspiracist, produces nothing but CSAM and Co2, immune to courts, unpleasant to be around. He's the whole package.

The reality is that there is no non-violent way to non-consensually end a healthy human being's life. The effort spent to fool death penalty advocates into thinking they are participating in something clean and surgical makes an already barbaric spectacle disgustingly hypocritical as well.

Ten years of relentlessly hateful, comically elitist anti-democratic politics across the white people world, helpfully summarised. The wrong people are talking, the wrong people are deciding and it’s harming the careers of important people who actually matter. Smithers! Release the hounds
The incident fits a broader pattern in the discourse around 'free speech' and 'cancel culture': whatever comes from the top down is freedom; whatever comes from the bottom up is bullying and censorship. When Macklemore is dropped at the behest of the billionaire stadium owner Robert Kraft, it's an exercise of the freedom of businesses to 'demonstrate their values' by deciding whom to platform. But when Ed Sheeran's fans decide not to buy tickets to his performances, or even demand refunds, it's bullying, mob behaviour. Since most people are not billionaires and do not own stadiums, they can exercise meaningful power only collectively. The collective exercise of power must therefore be demonised.

It’s very simple and it’s been said over and over but I guess it needs saying continuously: if you deem one group too small to have equal rights you are enabling fascism, not fighting it. The people saying Dems are GREAT on trans rights are not paying attention and/or saying stuff like this.
Nichole Hiltz
The Democrats defend the Kennedy Center but not trans people.

I think about this essay all the time
It has also occluded something deeper. The philosopher Mark Wilson has observed that concepts often appear stable while the work they do shifts entirely as they move between domains. He calls this "wandering significance." "Decision" is wandering now. In the military context it means the system's output, a targeting nomination scored and forwarded. In journalism and tech criticism it means much the same, the thing the AI got wrong. In neither of these does it mean what it used to mean, which is a person choosing to do something for which they could be held accountable. People are still making decisions in that sense. Someone decided to compress the kill chain. Someone decided that deliberation was latency. Someone decided to build a system that produces a thousand targeting decisions per hour and call them high-quality. Someone decided to start this war. Several hundred people are sitting on Capitol Hill, refusing to stop it. Calling it an "AI problem" gives those decisions, and those people, a place to hide.

It's incredibly satisfying, as a narrative structure, that Donald Trump, the man the boomers chose as their avenger and scourge, wants to destroy the Kennedy Center, a memorial to the boomers' avatar for their loss of innocence.

just once in my life i would love for an interviewer or reporter or podcaster who hears this line to simply say "what the fuck are you talking about"
Legacki: Exactly. But you know, I think when you look at some of the comments from voters related to this poll, it goes to show that our position is improving every day, but we shouldn’t necessarily take that for granted. I think there’s a clear call from a lot of these voters, and some of the comments that they gave, that they just want normalcy, they want centrism. They’re tired of swinging back and forth from the far right to the far left.
