Earlier this week, I agreed to interviews with two USA Today journalists. They wrote fantastic articles about the Cornell case that I'm proud to have been a part of. What I did not know is that their employer considers interviews to proprietary and opens up recordings to be used by any journalist.

scan of a gouache painting of Philly's mascot Gritty, a furry orange muppet with wild eyes, as a wrathful deity crowned with gold flames, dancing on modern imps of ignorance and cruelty, on the Columbia bridge over the Schuylkil, in front of a burning Cybertruck in the river, flanked by offerings of pretzels and Tastykakes. It holds up a progress flag on a hockey stick, a middle finger, a sprig of ginkgo, a big cup of Wawa coffee, one empty blessing hand, and a molotov cocktail ready to throw. The sky is pastel dawn colors over Fairmount Park.

And if you think this is just some BS meme image, you can listen to the man himself: www.npr.org/transcripts/...
A text image of a small part of the transcript of a conversation between Ari Shapiro and David Simon (Creater of 'The Wire') on a segment on NPR during the wirter's strike of 2023:

Shapiro: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without AI, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had that tool to solve those thorny problems...

Simon: What?

Shapiro: ...Or saying...

Simon: You imagine that?

Shapiro: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.

Simon: I don't think AI can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.

Shapiro: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into AI and say, give. me 10 ideas for how to transition this.

Simon: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

I am mostly joking when I say that there should be criminal consequences for, in 2026, casually asserting that the Supreme Court's "larger project" is "reining in the power of the presidency and making the president more politically accountable" www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...
Why does Trump keep losing at the Court? Because the larger project the Roberts Court seems to have undertaken is reining in the power of the presidency and making the president more politically accountable. Trump’s tariffs and Joe Biden’s student-loan-debt-forgiveness cases were both about whether a president could act without clear congressional authorization. The 2024 Loper Bright decision, which held that executive-branch agencies no longer get to define the scope of their own authority, also stripped power from the executive branch. So did the vaccine-mandate case (Biden) in 2022 and the tax-records case (Trump) in 2020. This is a through line across administrations.
