VIVIAN MAIER was a Nanny for 40yrs who unbeknownst to anyone spent her free time taking over 150,000 photos of whatever interested her. 2yrs before she died her photos were found in a lock up she’d failed to keep up payments on and her decades of incredible work suddenly exploded upon the world.

You see, the trouble with marketing this is people have asked for the images to remain secret so we’ve got nothing new to show you. But there’s 13 brand new posters in here that aren’t in the book and if it doesn’t reach 88 sales we’re going to have to can it. Then they really WOULD be lost films!

It would seem the Home Office has now acquired the ability to impose, without visibility or accountability, shadow bans on students coming to British universities from particular countries. How? Because of the interaction between indiv visa decisions (made by HO alone) and visa rules for unis 1/?

UK must not be beholden to foreign AI, says head of Alan Turing Institute
George Williamson says ‘national resilience’ is key focus of ATI amid US and China’s runaway leadership in field The UK must not become dependent on foreign AI systems that can be switched off at short notice and must develop its own versions of the technology, according to the head of the Alan Turing Institute. The country needs a stronger domestic position in AI in response to the US and China’s runaway leadership in the field, with “national resilience” a key focus for ATI said George Williamson. I keep trying to think of any historical example where a given technology's PROMOTERS AND TRUE BELIEVERS were like 'we are absolutely going to ruin your fucking life so be prepared like it's the end of the world'
Andrew Curran: Axios is reporting that the top labs are wargaming scenarios for the aftermath of a catastrophic event in the next 6 - 12 months, that some executives now see as being inevitable.

Axios: Top executives at Anthropic, OpenAl and other Al companies are privately gaming out scenarios for a public and political revolt after a catastrophic AI event.
Why it matters: These officials anticipate a large-scale event, most likely a cyberattack, that shuts down access to financial services, internet connectivity, or even power and water.

Edouard Harris: This is our view as well. Relatedly, average people will want to increase their level of personal resilience and preparedness as their resources allow. We will be publishing about this soon.

Nick Farina: Best ways to be prepared? Generators, water, books and DVDs?

Edouard Harris: Power, water, food, sanitation for most part. Parts of this depend on your geo latitude - solar vs propane for eg.

But also: set aside a computer that is not (and ideally has never been) connected to the internet. Buy faraday pouches and tape. Print out essential docs on paper.

Trump should have been made a pariah on the political stage already. All the state visits, the handshakes, the attention when he speaks. A man with no credibility or conscience has been able to operate as if these things are normal. We say 'maybe today will be the day' because what else do we have?
