It is deeply unfair of today’s Guardian film quiz grid to not permit me the use of Guy Ritchies ‘Alladin’. Still absolutely fucking wild to me that that happened.
The Guardian ‘guess the film’ quiz which rewards rare or unusual answers - like ‘Pointless’ with movies.

The three categories are:

1.
Title starts with M to Z

2.
Genre: Comedy or thriller

3.
Released from: 1990 to 2015

The three Artists are:

1.
Guy Ritchie

2.
Katheryn Bigelow

3.
Rob Reiner

As evidenced by this 19th century illustration (particularly third from the left) ‘female hysteria’ is all too often confused with ‘Being absolutely DONE with your crap.’

For context, this is what she looked like as she said these heartbreakingly sincere words, through a cracking voice. She must be treasured and protected
Danni from Bake Off 2026 - doing her goodbye testimonial.

She is a wide-smiled white woman in her early twenties with brown/blonde hair which has a blue ribbon on her left side. She wears a light blue Peter Pan collared blouse with a dark blue kerchief beneath her bake off apron. She stands upright and proud despite being obviously quite sad against the backdrop of a sunny summer afternoon on the bake-off grounds

Some belated thoughts on ‘Widows Bay’: Something that I really like about it is that it feels (to me at least) like they really asked themselves ‘what is common to both comedy and horror?’ In terms of how it’s shot, edited and lit/graded.

Today i had one of the weirdest electrical glitches I’ve ever encountered. Kitchen circuit tripped this morning. Identified the culprit as a blown fuse in the extension that feeds the washing machine. Changed the fuse but a test led to repetitive pops - denoting a short. Maybe it had gotten wet?

In 2021, income tax personal allowance was frozen at £12,570. If aligned with inflation, it would now be £16,070. A minimum wage earner in England will pay extra £980 in income tax & NIC in 2026-27. Govt can easily increase personal allowance by £3,000, worth £600 to basic rate taxpayer.

I would be much more likely to visit the Lucas museum if there was a secret room, decked out to look like a slightly messy apartment, that was just a gallery full of pictures of Carrie Fisher having a nice time.
Carrie fisher and Meryl Streep in 1991 at a party. They booth have blonde bobs and Carrie is urgently feeding Meryl chocolate cakeCarrie Fisher with short dark/res hair and. Black dress at a party in 1990 she is holding a cigarette and is doing a silly duck face with her hands to her ears. Tom hanks stands behind her Carrie fisher and Harrison ford at a party in someone’s apartment - I’m guessing around 2003?

She holds him close with her face in his chest and they both stare with faux, scandalous intensity into the camera Carrie fisher (black dress) and Margot Kidder (white blouse -

Chatting to a friend about the Tim Curry of it all. Question came up of, “But what was it that made him just so hypnotic?” My working hypothesis is that the fascination is a kind of atavistic vigilance. You can’t look away because HE is looks at YOU like he’s deciding whether or not to eat you.

Was googling a previous show of mine to see if I'd missed any reviews from the time that I could get a pull quote from. Found this one from a British Comedy Guide user review. Tempted to make it the entire poster.
User reviews:

I really don't get it? The guy's as far from being prepared for a festival as its possible to be. The audio is awful, the lighting is terrible? These are things that are easily dealt with before you even start to deliver
your material, but letting that slide and then putting as much effort into a very ordinary act as possible just says to the audience that you really don't have anything to say worth anyone's attention. Which, to
be fair, you don't! This might sound mean-spirited but it's just intended to jolt some realism into you.

Angus, you're not making any progress and it's time to think about doing something else.

I’m 43 tomorrow. The list of things in my body that randomly hurt hit double figures and, energy wise, I felt like Putin had made my breakfast. Just anxiously dropped a tonne of money at the pharmacist on the way back from the school run. I have entered my Chris Traegar era…
Rob Lowe as the health obsessed Chris Traegar in ‘Parks and Recreation’ he holds up a vitamin pill that’s about the size of a fun size snickers in front of a perplexed Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler)

He says,

So people are being paid to record their manual labour to train AI. It seems like a bitterly ironic inversion of David Warner’s speech in ‘Time Bandits’. Turns out, Evil DOESN’T need to understand digital watches and video recorders - it wants to know about dovetail joints and how to do a haircut

Reading this today about the absolute Spruce Goose that was ratings-war era, ITV soap ‘Albion Market’ Would bloody LOVE to write something about someone being given a set tour and a sit-down dinner with the cast of a show they’ve been tasked with axing! The atmosphere at that dinner!!
Indeed, in June 1986, The Sunday People reported that Granada TV were inviting budding writers to come up with ideas on how to end the doomed soap as 'the regular scriptwriters can't make up their minds how to wrap it up.' The winner would be treated to an all-expenses paid trip to the set and have dinner with its outgoing stars. The final episode aired on August 24, 1986.The cast of Albion Market pose in front of the gates to the eponymous market yard
